The service was excellent. Sherry, our waitress, accommodated my funky diet (no dairy or grain) in a way that inspired confidence. And the food was great. With a minor modification I was able to really enjoy the duck - really yummy. My husband the chef enjoyed the agnolotti and mussels. we can highly recommend The Admiral!

Normally in a town with so many choices, if a restaurant disappoints me, I do not go back. I made an exception with The Admiral and I am so glad I did. I was a big fan of Justin Burdett at Local Provisions, so when I heard he had taken over the kitchen at TA, I knew it was time to go back. The format of the menu remains the same, but you can see the new chef's influence in the dishes now offered, the seasonings, and the local sourcing. We started with drinks (the house Manhattan is sinful with the addition of Luxardo and chocolate bitters) while we perused the menu. In the small plates, I spied seared sweet breads over housemate pasta and knew that I needed to have them, so my husband agreed to share them as a first course. There is not enough that can be said about how good that small plate was! Tender sweetbreads, cooked beautifully over a toothsome pasta with mushrooms and just a hint of citrus. No sharing of that next time I go...We then enjoyed the duck breast and the Brasstown strip for entrees. Both were cooked perfectly with flavorful side dishes, but sadly needed to be seasoned. It was almost as if that part was forgotten, because the sides were seasoned. We asked for salt and that improved them, but would like to see more care for that next time. Service, wine, and dessert were also excellent and now I cannot wait to go back.

1. Delicious fried oysters with a delectable, nearly whipped remoulade should have included lemon wedges on the plate.2. The Brussels sprouts were very good, even moreso cold, the next day. (And if I brought food home, you can conclude that the portions are not too small.)3. Trout was cooked perfectly; it was served in a bowl of clam chowder including clams in the shell--this was very pretty and delicious, but the diced potatoes were almost flavorless. They shouldn't be in there merely for texture.4. I simply did not have the jaw strength to masticate the rather large leaves of Swiss chard.5. Dessert menu did not tempt us, though we were open to it.6. It all ended on a rather sad note, meal-wise, when a tepid cup of coffee was served.

Always the best! Dinner and service is amazing. I recommend almost the entire menu!

Great food in a casual atmosphere. I will definitely go back. The beef tartar was one of the best I have ever had
