“Mallett Performance Cars Supercharger Kit Review – 2015 GMC Canyon 4X4
I discovered the Mallett Performance Supercharger Kit in my research and called Chuck Mallett to discuss my issues. Everything that Chuck explained to me was spot on. Both Chuck, Carol, and Ben have great follow-up and customer support skill in addition to fantastic product and vehicle knowledge. They are a pleasure to work with. They provided the best answers, even when my questions weren’t so well phrased or clear. They knew what was going on!
Before the Mallett Supercharger Install: I had issues related to pulling a 5000# RV trailer with my 2015 GMC Canyon.
1. Below 3000ft of altitude the 3.6L V6 does well. Over 3000ft in altitude the naturally aspirated V6 engine quickly looses power.
2. By 4000ft high the engine spends most of the time in 4000-5000 rpm range due to transmission downshifts on any inclines.
3. By 7000ft high, acceleration from a stop was extremely slow and by 11,500ft high, 20 mph was my top speed.
4. Also, above 4000ft, stops were required due to over heating.
5. I researched solutions and went from 0.327 axle gear ratio to 0.456 axle gear ratio. This change helped, but not enough for comfortable driving – Driving was still stressful.
After the Mallett Supercharger Install:
1. Transmission shifting was still smooth, but with massive pulling power with the trailer attached.
2. Without the trailer, the Canyon is crazy quick!!!
3. Altitude has no affect on engine power or pulling ability (strong all the way and everywhere).
4. Engine cooling is no longer a concern (Chuck reprogrammed the cooling fan duty cycle).
5. Fuel economy improved 1-2 MPG (Chuck optimized fuel & transmission runs in higher gears).
6. Engine RPM’s dropped to 2,500 to 3,000 from the 4,000 to 5,000 – Very little downshifting.
7. I am not fatigued after pulling the trailer though the mountains – it is now an enjoyable drive.
8. My wife noticed the improvements from the passenger seat (Happy Wife).
I installed the SC Kit myself at home in the garage. The Color Installation Manual is a beautiful work of art with actual color photos or CAD screen shots and clear captions to give directions at each step. I just followed the manual and does it ever work!!!
