“We had a great stay here in mid January. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Ours had a small kitchen - we didn’t cook but it did have an electric range, full fridge & microwave. Bed was comfortable and everything was very clean and in good working order. Staff we interacted with was friendly and professional. I liked the location a lot. Closed to restaurants but not so close as to be a problem with traffic or noise. I would definitely stay here when we are back in the area.”

“My family has been staying at First Colony for the last 8 years. It is our go-to place to stay at the OBX. We love how friendly the staff are, the feel of the rooms, the grounds (we do miss the whimsical outside decor), the beach and sound views from the second floor deck, the outside rocking chairs that are perfect to sit in and read a book, the pool, and so much more. First Colony has that bed and breakfast feel that we love. We are also history nuts and the history of the hotel is what drew us to it the first time and what brings us back every year.

We noticed that some work was being done on the outside decks to help maintain the safety of the structure. Most guests love sitting outside to enjoy the views so maintaining the building is a must.

We missed the in-house breakfast this year. Hopefully they can find a new chef to cook their amazing breakfasts again. We were there the first week of July.

Also, the hotel is on the market. Praying that whomever purchases this amazing hotel continues with the traditions of First Colony that we have all grown to love.”

“Check was smooth and the room kept clean. Nice balcony and view of the ocean. Shower was hot and the bed was a hair short of firm. Plenty of parking but keep in mind we visited toward the end of the season. We would stay there again.”

I recently visited the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving and stayed at the Comfort Inn South in Nags Head. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, my experience was truly exceptional.
Tavia and Sheena at the front desk exceeded every expectation. Their warm greetings, genuine smiles, and welcoming presence immediately set the tone for a wonderful stay. It’s clear that the entire team works hard to create a comforting, home-away-from-home environment for every guest.
What was meant to be a simple holiday getaway became something far more meaningful. My oceanfront room offered not just a beautiful view, but a peaceful, healing space where I felt safe, comfortable, and cared for. Every need I had was met with attentiveness and professionalism.
Thank you for making my stay so memorable. I highly recommend this location to anyone visiting the OBX. With so many lodging options available, this is one I will absolutely keep at the top of my list for future trips.

“My stay was for work. The room was what you’d expect for a beach hotel. It was small but welcoming & clean. The hotel is a short walk to the beach. Check in was effortless. The doors have been updated with a keypad entry so you don’t even have to remember your key. I had no complaints.”

“If you like a little hole in the wall stay this is your spot. Keep in mind there is no front desk so you have to get your room access code from your email. Blinds felt a little exposing, beds decent, coffee in the room is a nice added touch, has a microwave and fridge, shower items could use an update, and only one real accessible outlet in the room. Pet friendly. Parking is interesting but manageable. Great view of the sound.”
