Petland Chillicothe
881 N Bridge St, ChillicotheMy husband and I had a wonderful experience today at the Petland in Chillicothe, Ohio! We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. Multiple staff members interacted with us as we walked through the pet store. All of the animals seemed very happy, content, and well socialized. The shelves were neat and stocked, the entire pet store smelled fresh and clean, and there were multiple happy families and couples walking around interacting with staff and all of the animals. When we first walked in, we noticed the wall where the puppies are housed. Several of them appeared to be sleeping. Their bedding appeared to be clean, their water bottles were filled, and they had several toys to keep them occupied. I can tell the puppies are very well loved on here! In the middle of the pet store is where the birds, rabbits, hamsters, ferrets, and guinea pigs are housed. They all appeared to have fresh bedding and food. I absolutely fell in love with the sweet ferret! One of the employees approached my husband and I and asked if we wanted a box to take the ferret home! Haha. She then told us a personal story of her family's ferret she had while her kids were growing up. She said their ferret was a lot of fun and loved to play and carry things around! In the back of the store is where their Koi pond and kittens are located. All but one of the kittens were napping during our visit. Their enclosures were clean and had several forms of enrichment. It looked like they had a sweet cat condo set up! The Koi pond was spotless and the fish approached us a couple of times! We checked out the fish and reptile area. The fish tanks were clean and the reptile enclosures were as well. We said hello again to the puppies and another staff member approached me and asked if we wanted to get a four legged friend out! I asked if we could visit with a puppy without buying and she said yes. The puppy that I was initially interested in playing with wasn't available to come out of their enclosure because they recently had a veterinary exam. There were signs posted on the puppy's enclosure that couldn't interact with the public. I at first didn't notice the sign posted, but that was my fault. I was so focused on getting the puppy out to play that I didn't notice at first! The employee was very kind to explain that to me. She was also assisting other families with the puppies, but was still nicely waiting on my husband and I to decide on what puppy we wanted to play with. We decided on the Golden Doodle puppy that was housed with a Cocker Spaniel. The employee asked if we would like to get both puppies out! I could NEVER turn that option down!! She even thanked us for playing with the puppies and helping socialize them. Both puppies were happy and eager to interact with us! There were fully stocked hand sanitizer stations everywhere. My husband and I were sure to sanitize our hands before and after interacting with all of the animals. We had a wonderful experience and can't wait to return!

Pet Sitting & Training

Home Alone Pet Sitting Services
16200 OH-28, ChillicotheCharlotte is like a 2nd mum to our black Lab Toby…..he quite obviously adores her! Charlotte started taking him for walks as a puppy and it’s paid back tenfold as he’s a delight with other dogs and is never happier than when he’s going on a walk with her and the ‘pack’…so much so that he waits by the window for her vehicle to pull up! She’s an extended member of his family and quite frankly I don’t know what we’d do without her. Can’t recommend her highly enough!

Ross County Humane Society
2308 Lick Run Rd # A, ChillicotheRoss County Humane Society does extraordinary work under extraordinarily difficult circumstances. This is an organization staffed by capable, compassionate professionals who show up every day to advocate for animals, follow the law, and make the hardest decisions with integrity and care.
Under current leadership, the Humane Society has not only saved and improved countless lives, but has also grown into a modern, humane facility that allows staff and volunteers to care for more animals safely and responsibly. That kind of progress doesn’t happen without vision, persistence, and deep respect for both animals and the people who care for them.
What many don’t see is the reality behind the scenes: responding at all hours, entering unsafe and heartbreaking conditions, working within legal constraints that can be frustrating for everyone involved, and still choosing compassion over indifference—every single time. The outcomes are not always what we wish for, but the commitment to doing what is lawful, ethical, and humane never wavers.
This organization helped over 1,200 dogs last year alone, not to mention cats and other animals in need. That represents lives saved, suffering reduced, and dignity preserved. It also represents staff and volunteers who absorb emotional and physical risk so the rest of us don’t have to.
I am grateful for the Humane Society’s professionalism, transparency, and unwavering dedication to animals in Ross County and beyond. They deserve respect, support, and recognition for the work they do—not criticism when reality collides with emotion.
Thank you for doing the hard work, the right way, every day.
