“It is a very nice Jewish store apart from everything, they took good care of us. I bought the Torah there in Spanish and Hebrew and my girlfriend bought a menorah and candles.”

“One of the few independent bookstores in the area that sells new fiction and short stories in Spanish. If there is something you don't see, let him know and he will order it for you! The store also offers language class in several languages and book clubs as well. It is such a treat to visit!”

Here’s the other, deeper thing: if there was some kind of UNESCO Heritage Site designation - but for Cleveland - Mac’s Backs would have that status. This place is a critical piece of the city, one of the reasons Cleveland can say with a straight face that it offers cultural amenities comparable to larger metros. The staff has a genuine and deep knowledge of local literary history as well as being broadly well read; the whole operation is unique and irreplaceable.
