546 Concession Street, HamiltonOur experience at The Urban Zoo with Janna and Alanna was outstanding! We drove all the way from North Bay after researching the best grooming and boarding services. One of our conures is a rescue bird and very easily frightened, but Janna was able to expertly and calmly groom her and do a general wellness check. We got a DNA test done for our other conure, and it was done safely and quickly.
Janna and Alanna were kind, reassuring, and I really enjoyed talking to them about avian care. I also loved seeing the happy parrots hanging out in the store and being silly!
ABSOLUTELY worth the 4 hour drive to know our parrots are in safe, capable hands. Thank you!

I am so grateful that they could take us same day, and that they are extremely wonderful at what they do! My boy was not well behaved, but she did such a great job at such a great price, I would recommend them to anyone. I am contemplating bringing my other old guy in as well, because he runs when I try to groom him. Overall a great experience (not so much for them as for me), and I am very impressed.

1770 King Street East, HamiltonYour VCA Kingsway veterinary clinic was a lifesaver Saturday and thanks to Alyssa or Alicia (I may have her name wrong) she was able to help immensely.
We stepped up for a friend whose home had a small fire yesterday and they enlisted our help by taking in their pomchi. In the excitement of the fire and all that is involved to relocate yourself and your belongings we were provided with only one can of prescription dog food. Being familiar with a dog who requires special dietary food only available through a vet clinic we knew we couldn't purchase it from a pet shop. A quick call to VCA Kingsway Saturday afternoon just after 2 pm to find out if they had this specific Digestive i/d dog food was alleviated when Alyssa confirmed there were 11 cans in their stock available.
As their clinic closes at 3pm on Saturdays we quickly drove over and made our purchase that was already at the front counter for us, and we're not a client. Excellent work and thank you!

2804 King Street East, HamiltonOn July 14th we found my baby (cat) struggling for her life and paralyzed just steps from our door . I wondered if she ate something but it was thought that she was hit by a car and I'm sure bleeding internally . Lillie is/was my world, my little sidekick- not even 3 years old yet. My heart shattered when we were urged to put her to rest immediately after arriving , But the care and compassion from the team really helped me feel cared for while I was clearly struggling with the whole thing all with a new baby in tow. I do regret not taking my baby home but it wasn't within budget.

We trust them 100% to provide the best possible care to our two dogs Stevie and Dolly. We have called on Downtown Animal Hospital for routine, emergency and end-of-life care for our previous three-pack who have crossed the rainbow bridge. In all cases, it's so clear how much they all love animals. Aileen on the reception desk is an absolute joy. We live very close to the clinic, but if we didn't, we'd drive anywhere to take our dogs there!

Olive had an excellent experience with Dr. Paula Zathy. Olive didn't even flinch when her vaccines were given and her nails were clipped, which with past vets she was not this calm. Dr. Paula is definitely an asset to Mohawk Animal Clinic. There should be more vets like her.
My friend will be returning knowing Dr. Paula Zathy is at this clinic.

East Mountain Animal Hospital
1175 Stone Church Road East, HamiltonI cannot say enough good things about this urgent care vet. Took my little 9 pound Pomeranian in last night after we suspected our son gave him raisins. Prior to bringing him in I tried giving him some hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting but it didn’t work. When I arrived they were calm, and collected. Didn’t shame me for trying and proceeded to explain what they would do and the options I had. I opted for induced vomitting via injection … thankfully I did. My little guy ended up eating in fact 2 raisins. After an emotional wait the vet and techs reassured me everything was okay. I had 4 different techs including the vet who were all wonderful, friendly and very obviously animal lovers. I waited for another 30 minutes or so as my dog was continuing to puke after expelling the raisins which was to be expected. The receptionist cleaned up with no hesitation even though I offered to clean it up. She was kind and understanding. Sat with me and listened to my story about our previous dog we just lost in July with compassion. I honestly was so impressed and happy with the whole experience. My little guy is okay and feeling back to his little self. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you team for your hard work and kindness. You helped a stressed mom have a much more calm experience in an already high stress situation.
After reading reviews I want to add : For all the customers complaining about having to pay upfront this is a very common practice with emergency/ urgent care vets. Also given the area they are located in with a lot of low income clients, they cannot afford to loose a payment or possibly have to take a client to court because they haven’t paid. I can imagine due to some of the clientele they get being in this location it’s more common that not. So having to pay prior to completing the service is not uncommon especially in emergency situations. My regular vet made us pay before we had to put our dog down because who wants to pay a bill once you’ve just experienced one of the worst days of your life and you’re grieving. Everything happens for a reason. I can bet one bad apple ruined the bunch and because of this they had to revert to paying before service is complete to ensure they don’t get burned. Operating as an urgent care vet, I don’t think is unreasonable or uncommon. Doesn’t mean they are in it for the money. You’re going to have to pay before or after anyway. But that allows the business to still operate rather than finding out the client can’t actually afford it which I can imagine had happened in the past, thus resulting in that practice. How could they operate if half their clients can’t afford the services but don’t tell them until after? This ensures service is given and the clinic can still operate and pay their staff.

My dog is a super picky eater and enjoyed her meal. Nina had the cafe decorated, spots for photo opportunities and a gate to maintain safety. In addition, Nina was kind, professional and made an effort to speak with customers. If you are looking for a cute spot to hang out with your dog, I highly recommend this!

301 Barton St E, HamiltonI was very excited to try this place. They require reservations so I was expecting it to be very crowded on a Sunday morning for brunch. It was not bad, but it wasn't great either. They have good service and an efficient menu online where one clicks on the desired item and it has really a lot of options for personalization which is GREAT, specially if you are shy and find it hard to ask for many modifications. The food itself was again, good, but not great. I couldn't really taste the hollandaise on my Benny, and the mushrooms were very abundant but not very flavorful. The potato pancake was very interesting and probably the best item. They do not have pepper or salt shakers on the table and I was seated on the bucket chairs. I love bucket chairs, I have them in my office but the problem is that they were much lower than the table which made the reach difficult. I would have been better off siting on the bench against the wall or one of the chairs. Not sure whether I would recommend but on the other hand I want to be fair: the quality was indeed, good and the service very polite and prompt. The cappuccino was also very large, and the price ($22 plus tip) for a one-egg benny and a cappuccino was reasonable for the city and location.
