Department Stores in Timmins, ON

“I wanted to share a story from my last visit to this store (it is worth it, I promise).

My mom and I were looking through the clearance section near the fitting rooms. I tried on a few clothes — some fit, some didn’t. While I was changing, my mom found a burgundy puffer vest in my size. When I tried it on, it fit perfectly. The only problem was that there was no price tag on it at all. No sticker, no tag sticking out, nothing…

The employee working in that section had just left, and there was no one around to help, so I went to ask a lady named Branda in the women’s department. I explained the situation, and while her tone seemed a little off at first, she still tried to help me.

She went to the computer to check the item, but technology was definitely not on her side that day. She had been logged out of the system, her handheld scanner wouldn’t work, and every attempt to fix the issue seemed to fail. At first, I was getting a bit frustrated too, but after a while, I realized Branda was genuinely trying her best to help me. As someone who also works in customer service, I could understand exactly how she was feeling.

She even called someone to help her log back into the computer, but that didn’t work either. I tried searching for the vest online to help out, but she explained that clearance items usually aren’t listed anymore. The only option left was to wait for the employee assigned to that section, who had already been gone for at least 15 minutes.

At this point, it was already 4:45 p.m., the store closed at 6:00, and Branda’s shift ended at 5:00.

Finally, the young lady came back. Her handheld device was able to find the item using the code. But when the price showed up, she just stared at the screen for a second… $3.

None of us said anything at first. A puffer vest for only $3 while most of the other clearance items were at least $10? I honestly couldn’t believe my luck.

The employees printed the price sticker for me, and I thanked both of them for all their help and patience. They thanked me as well for being understanding while everything was going wrong.

This whole experience really showed me that the staff at this store are willing to do whatever they can to help their customers, even when everything seems to be going wrong. I will come back to this location every time I visit Timmins. Honestly, it’s probably my favorite Giant Tiger location I’ve visited.”

“Been shopping here for over a decade, and will continue to do so. The customer service is good, the staff are always pretty friendly and the selection (for our part of the province) is decent, too. I always stop in here when I'm in Timmins.”

“It's the kind of place where you can pretty much find anything you could want. Food, clothing, electronics, toys, even art and home decor. It's overall run well and well kept.”

“Should stay open until 11pm like it used to, why are we keeping the Covid hours. I’m a frequent traveller on Ontario Northland and it doesn’t get into timmins till 10pm or later . It’s a missed opportunity of stocking up before I go home on a flight the next morning .”
