John was particularly helpful in how to avoid strain on my lower back that has been acting up. The equipment was in good shape and good quality. There was no distraction from enjoying the paddling experience along the Willamette and around Ross Island! If I don't buy my own kayak from them, I'll definitely rent from them again.”

He responded quickly via email with recommendations and a drop-off location at the Portland Athletic Club. We continued to communicate via text and he was very responsive. I was amazed that what started as a casual conversation on a Saturday morning resulted in a re-strung racquet with a replaced grip and overgrip by Sunday afternoon. This seemed much faster, and the price much better, than the last time I had this racquet strung at a different shop. Reasonable rates, fast service, and quality work. Will definitely use again.”

“I bought one Groupon for five people for a 30- minute lesson and 60-minutes of shooting as a Christmas gift to family. Since so many family members were interested, I ended up buying a second time slot for at full price. We were supposed to have two separate time slots, but I was called about a week before because they needed to combine the two groups. Worked out great! All ten shooters got to see everyone else shoot, and be all together. There were three of us that planned on watching due to numbers, as we actually had a total of 13 family members, but because 3 individuals needed a few breaks, one of the watchers was also able to get in some quality shooting time. That was even our instructor’s suggestion! Brandon was incredibly good at teaching. He was also extremely patient with our young, middle-aged, to one senior wild bunch. I was the photographer, and I think I had as much if not more fun than everyone else. Such a cool place!”

Try your hands at the techdisc, as its commuters analyze your throwing characteristics, and lets you simulate different results from different molds and throwing parameters! Brody and Valerie and the staff are awesome, too.”

This one of my favorite Portland businesses and is hands down my favorite local bike shop.I have steel and aluminum gravel bikes that need servicing throughout the year. When I first moved to Portland, I relied a lot on larger shops like River City Bicycles. After finding the Golden Pliers I am not going anywhere else. The experience could not be more different than the larger shops in all of the best ways.1. This is the best service you'll find in town. The folks here do an amazing job speaking with you about your bike, explaining the mechanics, and answering any and all questions with kindness and patience. No gatekeeping here. Every time I've brought a bike in with an issue, they've taken the time to walk me through the entire process of fixing it. As a hands-on learner with limited bike knowledge, this has been a huge learning experience.2. Every time I bring a bike in, someone stops what they are doing and starts chatting with me about what I need. Every single time, they have put my bike on the stand and sent me on my way with all the work I needed done in a short time frame.3. Huge wealth of knowledge among all of the folks here. I've seen them servicing everything from brand new full-suspension mountain bikes to old steel racing bikes. I'm confident I can bring anything here and it will be taken care of.4. Price structure is very affordable and transparent.5. The vibes can't be beat. Beer, coffee, records, product collaborations, and art.
