Pet Care

Erika Halle, DVM
1856 Blackwood Dr E E, MonmouthI took my 14 year old dachshund to see Erika after dealing with arthritis flare ups. Our traditional vet had her on narcotics, muscle relaxers and steroid injections (that she hated) and she kept having these flare ups. Erika did a chiropractic adjustment on our first visit and put her on herbs and supplements, which she enjoys eating and she has not had a single flare up in the last 3 years. Now at 17, you can tell she is getting old but she still has bursts of puppy energy where she does her slow motion zoomies. We’re so thankful to have found Erika who helped bring back quality of life to this sweet old girl.

Pet Sitting & Training

Oak Grove Kennel
6820 S Pacific Hwy W, MonmouthWe have tried 3-4 different grooming locations and no one connected with my pup like Courtney. I highly recommend Oak Grove Kennel in Monmouth. Courtney is very knowledgeable about how to handle anxious pups. I certainly will be going back.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Airlie Winery
15305 Dunn Forest Rd, MonmouthSuper chill vibe and gracious hosts. No big presentation but relaxed vibe compensates for the hands off approach. Dog friendly, and you can bring your own food! Last time I went, I met the owner, who thanked me profusely for being a member. Bonus, the wine is super great as well. Pinots kick it out of the park, and some surprise varietals.

Hazel’s on Main
105 Main St E, MonmouthWe’ve been to Hazel’s a few times now, and every visit has been… very quiet. Usually it’s just us and maybe one other table. It’s felt a little odd each time.
That said, I’m still giving five stars because there is a lot to like here.
Cocktails: 7–8/10
Food: 8/10

The food is solid, and the garlic in the shrimp scampi deserves a special mention—they definitely measure garlic with their heart, and I fully support that. Raw oysters are also a big plus for me.
The location, decor, and overall layout are genuinely cool, and you can tell this place could have great vibes. Unfortunately, the emptiness really impacts the atmosphere. A space like this feels like it’s meant to be buzzing, and without that energy it falls a bit flat.
I’ve also had the same waitress each time. She’s friendly, but with so few customers she tends to linger at the table longer than usual, which can feel a little awkward. Honestly, it seems like a side effect of the place just not being busy enough.
Hazel’s has a lot of potential, and I really do want it to succeed. It’s a cool spot with good food—I just hope it finds its crowd, because it deserves one.

The Sippery
169 Main St W, MonmouthI’m not much of a sit-down coffee person—I’m usually a quick drive-thru iced coffee, take it home and get to work kind of girl. But when I do want to sit and stay awhile, The Sippery is absolutely where I’d go.
There’s always a great mix of people here: students from the local college, regulars, Bible studies, mom groups—it truly feels like there’s a place for everyone, which is exactly what they aim for.
The coffee is great, but the food really deserves the spotlight. Bagel sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches on English muffins, avocado toast on steroids—it’s all genuinely good. No complaints. They also offer smoothies, teas, coffee, and even dirty sodas, so there’s something for everyone.
On top of the food, drinks, and cozy vibes, they feature local artists with items for sale like jewelry, handmade bookmarks (shoutout to Shane!), journals, cups, and more. It’s the kind of place you come for coffee and end up staying longer than planned.
Highly recommend.

Yeasty Beasty
167 Main St W, MonmouthWhen I first lived in Monmouth and discovered this place, I was genuinely sad when we moved away because it meant no more garlic beasty bites in my life. Now we’re back in Monmouth and within walking distance? Game on.
Yeasty Beasty is hands down the best pizza around.
Let’s break it down:
• Pizza (the pie kind)
• Calzones
• Pizza by the slice
• The best garlic breadsticks ever (garlic beasty bites, thank me later)
• Homemade sauces. Get the ranch.
• Arcade games
• Beer on tap
• Cider on tap
• Non-alcoholic beers
• Sodas for the kids
• Napkins on the tables (this matters)
• Seat-yourself, no-pressure vibe
To go, dine in, whatever you’re doing, it’s worth it.
As a mom, I hate having to cave to everyone else’s pizza preferences. I want all the meat. My kids want plain cheese. This setup is a dream. I get my slice. They get theirs. Nobody settles. Nobody breaks the bank. Win, win, win. And yes, adult drinks are part of the equation.
My husband and teenage son are all about the calzones. I’ve never been a calzone girly, but they look amazing and the boys keep ordering them, so that tells you something. For me and the four-year-old, it’s slices all day. Meaty Beasty for me. Cheese for her.
If you live in or near Monmouth and aren’t eating here yet, fix that immediately. ?
