Shogun's Gallery is a well-loved destination for Japanese antiques and vintage art in Portland. Originally located on NW 23rd, the gallery has since moved to a larger warehouse on Upshur Street, where visitors can find a wide variety of authentic Japanese items. Access to the gallery requires a phone call or appointment, as it is situated inside an industrial-style building with an elevator to the third floor. The collection is carefully curated and includes household ceramics, Tansu chests, landscape scroll paintings, Japanese clothing, go boards, sculptures, iron teapots, and more. Many items are reasonably priced, making it a great place for collectors and enthusiasts to find unique treasures. The owners, Joshua and Charlie, are known for their friendly and helpful attitude, offering knowledgeable guidance to visitors. The staff’s passion for Japanese art and culture shines through, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The gallery’s inventory reflects a deep appreciation for the native cultures of Northern Japan, like the Ainu, and features items such as wood sculptures of bears catching salmon, which highlight the region’s native food and traditions. Shogun's Gallery is a gem for anyone interested in Japanese antiquities, crafts, and vintage items. Its extensive selection and warm staff make it a must-visit for collectors, gift seekers, or anyone wanting a touch of authentic Japanese culture in their home. With ongoing sales and announcements, it remains a vital part of Portland’s long-standing connection with Japan.
Joshua and Charlie and their collection are amazing. It’s hard not to bankrupt myself when I visit their gallery. I can’t thank them enough for the treasures I have purchased from them. Their love for art bleeds into the world and makes it a better place.
