“Juan H. Espino at the Looking Glass Art Gallery in the Hawley Silk Mill is incredible. Not only is his artwork unique and full of personality, but he himself is an amazing, welcoming person. He takes the time to talk, share stories, and really connect with visitors.

His paintings have such a distinctive, colorful style that captures the spirit of the area in a way you don’t see anywhere else. You can tell there’s real passion behind every piece.

If you’re visiting the Silk Mill, this is a must-stop. Easily one of the best parts of the experience. Highly recommend!”

“Exactly the quirky, upscale hotel we enjoy. Squeaky floors (not noticeable while sleeping), early to mid-2000s architecture and decor, and wonderful service. The grounds were exceptional (lovely riverfront hikes) and they and the hotel were very dog-friendly, with bowls, a toy, and dog biscuits in our room when we arrived. Kevin at the front desk couldn’t have been more helpful or kind and the lady at the desk in the morning—unfortunately we never got her name—was equally gracious. I’d mistakenly booked a week before we were actually visiting and Kevin called me about 9 to see when we were arriving and helped me rebook for the correct nights. The on-site restaurant was five stars, too, both for breakfast and dinner. Well worth the trip off our direct route. If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll definitely return. One warning—upstairs rooms appeared to be accessible only by steep stairs, so if you have disabilities, be forewarned.”

“We truly enjoyed our stay at the Silver Birch Resort. Upon our arrival, we received a warm introduction and a comprehensive tour. We resided in a charming two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage, where we spent the weekend partaking in Wallyfest. The cottage, though quaint, offered a comfortable experience. While there was outdoor seating available, it had not been cleaned prior to our arrival, which unfortunately prevented us from utilizing it. The staff, however, were exceptionally kind and accommodating. We particularly appreciated the resort's direct lakeside location, which was a significant advantage. My son thoroughly enjoyed visiting the store and firepit each evening, and we made good use of the kayaks and canoe. Each day of our stay featured a full concert for Wallyfest, which was quite enjoyable. I appreciated being able to listen to the music even from the comfort of our cottage. Overall, I would rate it as a four-star experience, rather than five, primarily due to the pleasant staff and favorable location. Regrettably, I am uncertain if there were sufficient activities to fully engage my son. Nevertheless, we were delighted that it was a dog-friendly environment. The clientele appeared to be predominantly older groups, and I believe it may not be entirely family-friendly, as other nearby resorts seemed to offer more family-oriented amenities. However, for a couple seeking a quiet and quaint retreat near a restaurant, it might be precisely what you are looking for.”
