“I’ve been coming to Fringe Salon since 2021 and can confidently say it’s the best place in Philly for curly hair! I’ve tried other places, and they are never as good as Fringe.
Most recently, I had a color service that didn’t turn out how I expected, and the owner personally stepped in to make it right - shoutout to Ehrin! She spent hours with me, completely professional, kind, and dedicated to making sure I left happy. I really appreciated the salon’s responsiveness and care. I highly recommend this salon to anyone looking for expert curly cuts!”
“It’s a quite eclectic but lovely store by Isaiah Zagar and his wife. Really cool store!! Everywhere you turn, you see something else that catches your eye. You can call it a gallery because it’s just an eye candy, but would say it’s more like a store with multiple artwork from all over the world. We bought a nice cat mask from Mexico and nice bowl from Turkey. The art is reasonably priced and the staff is very friendly.”
“Love Art Star! I have gotten many great presents as well as things for myself. They did move to the Independence Visitor Center at 599 Market Street which is not yet reflected here as of my review.”
“Everything about this venue was perfect for my daughter’s baby shower!! I can’t emphasize enough how understanding and easy Cashmier made this process especially with such short notice. I am so grateful to have found this venue as everything about it was perfect. The area, parking, venue space, and service are all top notch. My family and I will forever be grateful to have had such a memorable night. Thanks again Cashmier you are truly the best that philly has!”
“Super friendly, very professional, great quality work. I needed two pieces: one needed to be fixed from a botched frame job from another framer, the other was a canvas. They worked with me to identify a photo service to print a photo, they even picked it up from the vendor so they could frame it. They also found a canvas printer for me and coordinated getting the canvas from the printer so they could stretch it on the frame. I will never go to another framer…and you shouldn’t either!”
“I've used Millennium Art for a few framing jobs & each one has come out beautifully. The owner is very responsive & provides a plethora of options to choose from. Will continue to come here for my framing needs!”
“The gallery is superbly lain out..Rennie & Rosario are amazing artists & their vision of a shared space for the community is marvelous. I have shown there a couple of times, what a thrill. My community supports this gallery & so do I. May they stay in business forever! L&l:)”
“Five stars for hosting my favorite comedian’s book signing! While I couldn’t make Maria Bamford’s signing of Hogbook and Lazer Eyes (?), I’ll make sure to support this business in the very near future.”
“Had a couple of pieces of art framed recently. I was very impressed with the quality and value. So much so that I went back a couple of weeks later. Great place, great work, and I would highly recommend. Was even done faster than originally quoted.”
“Jim is a fantastic instructor, he explained each step very clearly but also gave you space to create by yourself. Being an art teacher myself & my hubby a scientist, we found the process so interesting & have some lovely additions for our Christmas tree which we will use for years to come. A wonderful experience overall!”
“I got my cherry blossom tattoo done here in April and it turned out amazing. My artist Yana helped ease me through the process. It's beautiful and everyone working here is so nice. The studio is clean and safe. If you're looking for a tattoo shop, whether it's your first or twenty-first, this is a place to consider. I would go back for my next one. Thank you Central Tattoo Studio!”
“Wendy and her assistant Nat are truly warm, kind, professional people. The work they do is exemplary. I’ve had a number of photo prints framed there because of the museum-quality work that they do. They are thorough and patient, always taking the time to walk the customer through every detail. They also try to work with you to be cost efficient in your choices. I love this shop and their work, I won’t need to go anywhere else in Philly for my framing needs!”
“My Museum and Food Bestie and I took a Girlcation to Philly. She had discovered this Museum. It was not at all what we were expecting. We went in May 2024. The exhibits and number of floors available for public viewing rotate.
We had previously gone together to the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum in Carrollton. GA. I think we both thought this would be a very similar set of installations. It was very much not heirloom granny quilts.
When we went every exhibit had a strong LGBTQIA + theme but was inclusive for any viewer. I mainly took photos of Jessica Campbell 's Heterodoxy which runs through June 2, 2024. There are 16 hand-tufted wall coverings. There is a sample block you can touch. There are several tables with chairs that continue the hand-tufted theme which displaying an array of images. This exhibit had a flyer with more information about the images selected by this Toronto Canadian artist.
I wish the other exhibits had flyers of information to take home while digesting the images presented.
The next floor available was interactive and a combination of objects and video by she/her artists Rose and John. There is a final safe space room that is well light and includes a closet of clothes for participants to try on different genders.
Later on our trip I saw a young man with a "Protect Trans Lives" tee shirt. I mentioned the exhibit and Museum to him and his friends. They mentioned they were about to leave Philly but would come back to see this exhibit.
The final exhibit made the least impact on me. Perhaps because I grew up with Filipino Healthcare Professionals for Family and Family Friends the embodiment of caregiver and being cared for didn't really bring me new insight. I do respect that the artist has a different view of the Culture of the Philippines and identifies as a more modern interpretation of Filapinx.”
“Arrived around 4pm, they close at 6. Walked around the outdoor area, then went inside to see the other half and the sun went down, went back outside and it was a whole other world with string lights and colored light. Very magical after dark!
There is a cool self guided scavenger hunt inside and outside. They have guided tours to other parts of the building as well I think you have to schedule in advance.
Overall a cool experience, it doesn't take long to walk through the general admission area.”
“I miss going here. This place was my childhood, going there back when the old location was still opened. The atmosphere is always great for kids, especially during the summer. Unfortunately, as the years went on, it became a lot more adults, no longer being just for the kids. It went from a small and colorful establishment with a huge love of Puertorriqueno feels to a bland building that became more restrictive. From happy employees thinking of the kids first to employees just there to get small cash in their pockets. I still love this place, but I miss how it used to feel, especially now that I'm no longer a part of it. I don't get to see the old locations where I used to learn. Never lose your Puertorican joy
Kind regards, an old friend to lost memories
Thank you for teaching me to be proud of my culture ??”
“Rush Arts Philly opened in September 2016 with a show called “Power, Protest, and Resistance: The Art of Revolution”. Through works by dozens of artists—both Philadelphia and New York-based—the inaugural exhibition showcased the intersection of visual art and social action: art in the time of Occupy and the Black Lives Matter movement, art that both reflects and informs the ways that these different streams of protest, language and action are converging and building momentum towards, perhaps, some major cultural shift.”
“Mothership you gallery is so fun and creative! Aaron is super friendly and welcomed us into his store to look around and invited us to the art shows. We are super excited to attend his next event. This is such a unique place. I have never seen a store carry custom toys buy artist before.Absolutely love the wide ranges of styles in all the designs. My son absolutely loves anything and all things zombies and creepy toys. I’m excited to bring him in and have him pick something out to take home.”

“I recently completed an adult drawing class here with Jo Gamel. I loved the small class size and the balance between technical training and creative freedom. Masks and social distances are are practiced and class sizes are capped. When the weather allows we drew outside. Classes also available for children, illustration, pottery and painting for all levels.”
“AMAZING hours of pure FUN! This is a MUST DO in Philly. I went with my very picky 15 year old son and we were both fascinated by this place. We let our inner creativity interact with multiple exhibits. Take the time to learn the story that is being told in the artwork. Definitely buy a cocktail from Michael at the bar. The bar menu is very creative. Michael is just wonderful to talk to and so is Nate at the check in! Ask them questions about the exhibits or anything- they are so knowledgeable!”
“They’re very kind and helpful and they do fast and high quality work. I took two of my paintings not knowing much about framing and described what I like. They gave me great options that I loved and my frames were ready in less than a week.”
“super happy with the job they did framing a painting I got from a local artist in Peru. The price was very reasonable and the service was top notch! I have to give a big shoutout to May! She was an absolute pleasure to interact with and really nice and sweet to my girlfriend and I. We will definitely be coming here for any framing needs moving forward :)”
“HOTBED is the best! We hosted our wedding reception here and we could not have asked for a better night. Our goal was to create an experience for our guests that they had never seen before and would never forget. This was the perfect place to make that happen.Anais & Orlando went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We can't wait to come back for the upcoming shows. We're HOTBED lovers, for life.”
“The SPACE is my favorite store. It's stunning and carries a wide range of beautiful photography and hand made art, jewelry, bags, housewares and more. Whether I'm shopping for gifts or a treat for myself, I always find something (well, usually more than one). There are lots of price points. In fact, I bought a friend a $36 bracelet that says "joy" as a retirement gift. She told me last week it's now her favorite possession. The owners are very knowledgeable, fun to chat with, and have impeccable taste. They've created a true jewel in Queen Village. I believe they are open Wednesday - Friday evenings and Saturdays.”

“Elfie is an attentive, responsive landlord, and the studios are impeccably maintained and just such gorgeous, thoughtfully planned spaces. Plus, the building really takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the city, and finding parking is easy, which is a nice change. Love having our pottery studio here!”
“Went for the Serious Fun jewelry exhibit last week and was impressed with the breadth of interesting works of craft! It's a small space but one you can definitely take your time luxuriating in.”
“Randomly stopped by the other day on my way to an event, ended up staying for awhile and not going to the event. What an amazing shop, with the most fun, colorful, odd and exciting stuff.I met Sarah the owner and connected with her. I felt so seen and belonged. Definitely my new favorite shop! Will be coming back daily lol”
“I always have such a good experience at the store. The associates are really friendly, very knowledgeable, and always willing to have a chat with you about what they like, what they've seen, and what you're looking for. Be sure to sign up for the rewards program, it's actually good!
I live across town, but I find myself coming back to this smoke shop whenever I need something specific, or I'm interested in exploring a new category of goods. I know that I'll always have somebody who can tell me the considerations to make, who will be kind to me, and who won't make me feel weird for being a beginner, or new to something.
The amount of selection here is also just wild. They have flavors of things I've never seen anywhere else, the number of brands they carry-from the commonplace to the premium- is stacked, and they don't carry anything low quality, so I always walk out satisfied.”
