Hakim's Bookstore & Gift Shop is the first and oldest African American bookstore in Philadelphia and the east coast. It is a family owned and operated community treasure, known for its extensive collection of books on African American history, children's books, religion, and natural and holistic health. The shop also offers Afro-Centric gift items, calendars, greeting cards, and more. The bookstore provides great customer service with a very friendly staff and is celebrated for having the best children's book section for Black children, featuring many wonderful and unique titles that allow young readers to see themselves. It is a prime example of a special, curated independent brick-and-mortar shop that cannot be replicated by larger retailers. Customers appreciate the quality selections, find the books reasonably priced, and often leave with large purchases. Hakim's is recognized for being steadfast in the community, with a welcoming atmosphere enhanced by music, and is committed to continuing its legacy of service and outreach.

Went in, haven't been here in some time. Glad I stopped in, purchased two books, had some great dialogue. The best Gem in West Philadelphia, and a Historic Landmark.
