“I could spend all day in this place. The fact that they have a little café makes it all the more welcoming of a spot to kill some time and of course there’s always something good to read to take home with you.”
“Amazing food and really unique environment ! Alphabet City is so cool, restaurant and bar on one side, stage in the middle for musical performances, and library on the other side! Awesome, Northern-Italian inspired dishes, this time we had the arancini (best in the burgh) bolognese pappardelle and braised short rib ! One of the best Italian joints in the city”
“I love, love, LOVE this bookstore! It’s so beautiful with amazing offerings and the cafe attached has some great food/drink options too. I’m always looking for opportunities to support independent bookstores and this one definitely takes the cake! I was working in the area only temporarily but joined the points program anyway because I certainly hope I’ll be back!”
“Wait until you open the door and walk inside! It's like stepping through the doors of a wardrobe and into a magical place - because it is. Within you will find many beautiful and curious things curated by the owner who is always happy to share her knowledge and insight and answer any questions you might have. The prices at Sparkledragon are more than reasonable. The things I've purchased there cost double or triple elsewhere. The owner is trustworthy, kind and as honest as they come. You will enjoy your shopping experience at Sparkledragon.”
“One of my favorite finds in pgh. The owner is so incredibly kind and gives amazing recommendations. She hosts a bunch of fun events as well that really makes things feel like a community. Definitely a spot to checkout”
“Amazing staff. Amazing bookfairs (much better than Scholastic). I had the pleasure of being both an employee and a patron, and truly, the events and care that go into this indie bookstore is exceptional. Don't just check it out. Become a regular, go to the events, etc. You won't regret it!”
“Kinda pricey books but the selection is unmatched. Lots of curated tables of well known and indie authors. The inside is bright and airy as well. Stop by this place for sure!”
“Riverstone is a local store that sells books for adults and children as well as gifts such as stuffed animals, puzzles, and greeting cards. During my visit, I purchased a couple of items, and two employees courteously served me. I read on this store’s website that they hold in-store events such as meetings with authors and story times for children.”
“Went to Half Price Books for the first time today and it was packed—I literally snagged the last parking spot! We were on the hunt for manga for my daughter. Normally we pay $30–$40 at other bookstores, but today we got three for just $18. I’m not sure we’ll ever buy new manga again! The store is pretty big and carries not just used books, but also new titles, games, and other fun finds you’d expect in a bookstore. They also buy books, but you need to bring them in to get a price. We’re already planning to come back with a stack to sell! Staff was super friendly too!
You might want to add a couple minutes to getting in and out of there if it’s not on the side of McKnight you want to be on.”
“I have been buying books from this store for the past year and have never been disappointed. I have had to ask for recommendations based on my children's interests and Lea has always delivered stellar lists. I look forward to visiting the store in person and attending a book reading. I will continue to recommend The Tiny Bookstore to all of my friends and family!”
“I go to Barnes and Noble a lot, I love the environment whether you want to do research with the WiFi, grab any of the books which are plenty to go through and cross reference what you want, or just simply sit and read. Starbucks is great, the one guy (Chad) has been there for a significant amount of time and can make you things that are not on the "menu" tailored to what you want! It would be 5 stars, if it wasn't for the non-handicap doors. Just to add Allison in the store is amazing, super helpful!”
“A mecca of sorts. Bill is a legend in the alt / indie / underground comics scene and runs this incredible store on his own, seemingly through pure magick and love. The selection is.. overwhelming, to put it mildly, but Bill somehow keeps a mental inventory of everything and will dig through boxes to find you some obscure gems.I wish i could spend weeks here (and a small fortune).Prices are great. The online shop is phenomenal if you can't make it in person.Support this Pittsburgh treasure!”
“Fun people tons of books, games, music everywhere you look. If you'd like to just relax and read for a bit, seems like they encourage this place being open for that. Get yourself a drink or a sweet treat at the cafe and be nice to the people working, they get stressed too even if they're too nice to admit it!”

“Pinskars Wine and Judaica in Squirrel Hill a true gem hidden in plain sight. This charming establishment isn't merely a store; it's a gateway to experiencing Jewish culture and spirituality through the rich flavors of kosher wines and the intricate beauty of Judaica.Upon entering, you're greeted not just by the warmth of the staff but by the welcoming glow of menorahs and the rich hues of handcrafted shofars, each piece telling its own tale of heritage and faith. It's as if you've been invited into a cozy living room. The wine selection at Pinskars is the best I found for Kosher wine in all of Pittsburgh. It’s like a curated journey through the vineyards of Israel, France, Italy, and beyond, offering a symphony of flavors that can elevate any Shabbat dinner or Passover Seder into a memorable feast. Whether you're a connoisseur or simply curious.Great selection and great prices. Highly recommend.”
“Went there to frame a painting, it was very nice experience. Was given proper attention and advice on finding a suitable frame. Also there is a 10-20% off based on how many times you have taken the service. I paid about 130 for medium range nice wooden frame for 18x14 painting. More basic options would cost less. They give honest opinion on the pros and cons too.”
“Book books books! They have an incredible deal that if you buy three you get one free! I bought some of the most incredible books from the 1900’s still with placeholders and letters inside them. This is not a bookshop you want to skip over, and the employees are very nice, and will help you find what you’re looking for!”
“Great atmosphere, friendly staff. They have a permanent deal of buy 3 things and get a fourth (under $10) for free. Visited from Chicago and had a great experience”
“This store was highly recommended on our tour of Pittsburgh and I can see why. The posted hours do seem to be a bit of a suggestion, but the selection was excellent and varied.”
“Great selection of books and office/composition/art supplies, and you can shop there without any university affiliation. Seems like it caters to students at all levels, their families, and anyone curious from the wider community.”
“The book section is fantastic! I found a Christian lg print Bible, leather bound for 17.99! I have been looking for years!
I found children's books that would have cost me 70.00 anywhere else & I got them for alot less! I have fallen in love with this store!”
“Shepherd’s Door is a Christian nonprofit that operates a retail store and community programs. I shopped in the store one time. I saw merchandise such as crosses, greeting cards, mugs and cups, chocolates, soaps, home decor, stuffed animals, etcetera. Some products had a Christian theme, and other products were fair-trade. I decided to buy a few items. The cashier spoke nicely to me and accurately processed my transaction. The prices were typical.”

“New, well stocked, very friendly, large inventory. Was able to hold a book that I couldnt find at other barns and noble locations. I wish there was a place to sit and read. Otherwise good place to grab a book if another place doesnt have it.”
“Always a great selection of books. I have found several worthwhile gifts or new books for myself even when not especially looking for something. I particularly enjoy the poetry, crafts, and history sections.”
“Great university and college staff will give you the best opportunity to visit in person, share experiences and enjoy Point Park University campus. I Encourage you to visit the university and enroll in this great University. Point Park University Has many students opportunities, scholarships plus multiple excellent programs in many disciplines including many corporations, funds and such as the National Science Foundation, Hearst Newspapers, etc. Point Park University in Pittsburgh PA also has a great liberal arts program with a major dance, theater and performing arts programs which we enjoyed.”
“Edit- 3 stars since they keep reporting my review. Showed up at 430AM as my daughter wanted to search for 2 books. Worthless employee showed up at 0455 for an open at 0500. Kept cage down while counting the drawer. Stood outside the store and looked inside. Worthless employee stated she needed 10 minutes with endless attitude. I said sign opened at 0500, worthless employee asked what sign, I said your website. Good lesson for my daughter that when you work a job, you should be on time and willing to earn a living. This employee did not. We walked away!”
“Stumbled upon this place yesterday and loved it. Such a cute and unique gift spot. A great and funny collection of stickers, cards and other smaller gifts. Will certainly be coming here for all of card needs!”
