“I visited Born To Run in October 2024, after a coworker recommended I check out the store while I was looking for a new pair of running shoes. With Hilary’s (and her sweet dog’s!) help, I bought a pair of Saucony Triumphs. Now that I’ve put some mileage on them over the past months, I’m ready to leave a review.

Having just started running in March 2024 and moving to Philadelphia from out of state in August 2024, it’s safe to say that I had absolutely no idea what I was looking for in a new pair of running shoes. My visit to Hilary’s store was my first time buying a pair of running shoes—before that, I’d just been using my all-around walking shoes. Hilary was generous enough to share her time, knowledge, and expertise with me. First, she had me do a running test to figure out where my feet were striking the ground. Then, she gathered an assortment of many shoes, and guided me through trying them on. She even educated me about shoe sizing—and I learned that I’d be better off wearing a half size smaller than I was previously used to. I landed on a pair of Saucony Triumphs. Throughout the process, Hilary was friendly and kind. When she learned I’d just moved to Philadelphia from out of state, she even recommended some local running groups I could get involved with to help me find a sense of community with other runners in the area.

Months later, after having run in the Saucony Triumphs for a while, I’m quite happy with my purchase. The shoes took a while to break in, but once broken in, they transitioned into a smooth ride. I’ve been especially pleased with Hilary’s recommendation to go a half size down from what I’d normally wear. I’ve never been known for my athleticism—I’m pretty clumsy and can tend to wobble a bit while running. I’ve found, though, that the half size smaller shoes hold a bit tighter to my foot—while still giving them enough space to breathe—and helps to stabilize me while I’m running. That was quite the pleasant surprise!

All around, I was thoroughly happy with my experience working with Hilary at Born To Run. While I’ve since moved back to the state I originally moved to Philadelphia from, I would support Born To Run again in a heartbeat if I still lived in the area. Keep up the great work, Hilary—you helped this new runner find his way about the trail, and that’s much appreciated!”

“What a great store!! Great customer service! Joe, I believe that was his name, at least that's the name on my receipt, was extremely helpful! His measured my feet, watched my gait as I walked, all to provide me with the proper footware. He must have brought out about 8 pairs of shoes for me to try on before I settled on a pair. They have a great selection of all the best running & walking shoes available. And their prices are comparable with Dick's and Amazon. In fact, if I would have brought my shoes from Amazon, I would've only saved 5 cents. If I would have bought it from Dick's, I would've only saved a penny. If you're looking for a good pair of sneakers at an honest price with great, no-pressure, customer service, run or walk down to Jenkintown Running Company, you won't regret it! (FYI: I wound up buying two pairs, not one)”

“White glove service. Fitz Sized a bike for me and offered The opportunity to try it out in the neighborhood. He helped me with a helmet and lights and a bike rack. The bike seems perfect for me and I was easily able to remove it from the bike rack of my car when I arrived home. I had so much fun riding that bike. Wish I had bought one sooner. I felt like a little kid at Christmas. Even though it’s December, I will be out riding tomorrow, Confident that I have Everything I need for a fun time. Thank you so much for the Expert help.”

“Went to this store last evening to get new shoes for work as they were the only one in the area carrying the shoes I wanted in my size. I was immediately greeted by Sue Wack at the front registers and she directed me to the aisles I needed to go to. Upon selecting the shoes and getting ready to check out, I saw the deal they were running on socks, but none seemed to be in my size. This woman went to the back of the store to see if they had any more in the store, but to no avail. She was personable, and very patient with my 2 year old son that was curious about everything in the store. I'd highly recommend going here if you're looking for shoes and a level of customer service that I thought was long gone.”

“I've been to your store several times and have always thought service was terrific. On my most recent visit, when my wife was wandering around looking for something, I told her that the service was generally very good here. No sooner did I say that that one of your associates said to me, how may I help you. It couldn't have been timed any better. She was quite helpful as was another associate when he had to go to the back and find a larger sweat shirt. I told your associates on the way out that your customer service should be the model for all retailers. If this were the case, less people would be going to Amazon and more retailers would be staying in business. Please keep up the good work.”

“Great rink. I learned to skate here. Not via their classes, but the public skates, which was hard. But I am getting better. The staff is friendly, and they have a decent schedule with ice shaving during public skates. The parking kinda stinks though, and the bathrooms are really small. I also don't like most of the music played (but that's just me. I don't like pop)”

Curtis in the bike shop went completely above and beyond. He took the time to explain exactly how my battery works, why there’s a supply issue, and then actually located a used one for me. Unfortunately, proximity issues led me to Willow Grove, which failed to meet my expectations, resulting in a regrettable decision. Consequently, I will not be shopping at this store again. “I was so pleased to find this wonderful little gem, with its esoteric collection of fly tying materials at very fair prices.

At first glance this shop doesn’t look like much, but that’s because unlike more modern retail spaces set up to optimize display, its interior is densely packed with well organized materials storage (see pics).

As noted on the sign out front, “hours are by appointment or by chance,” but given that I managed to pop by on a Monday without ringing ahead and picked up a number of little things I needed - including dubbing wax, poly post materials, thread, and some little tying tools - for less than I would have paid at a big name shop, I was both very pleased and convinced that I’ll be returning (though next time I’ll call ahead).

There’s also a nice selection of new and used rods and reels for the angler who needs more.

Definitely worth a visit.”
