“Oh my gosh. This bookstore will forever have me in a chokehold. Went with my friend twice while we were in mtl this weekend. The staff are also all so sweet and knowledgeable!! Had an amazing poetry section aswell!”
“There I was able to find the gifts and toys I was looking for for the family!
Full collection of Comics, Comics, Manga, Pokemon, Starwars, Marvel, DC, Comics, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Madame Web, Spawn and more!
I always go there when I'm in Montreal ????”
“Cash only bookstore, lack of french books. Great pricing with a 1$ books section, nice aesthetic vibe. The place smells sometimes but apart from that very good spot for second hands.”
“Great bookstore with not only a large choice of books (in French) but excellent advisors who will take time with you to suggest you different authors and books and collections - and even propose you another bookstore if they don't have what you are looking for .

“A wonderful selection of books for all ages and reading levels. The bookstores took the time to really understand what I was looking for and described their recommendations in great detail. I've seen them do the same for several other customers. This bookstore is a gem!”
“This is a great neighborhood bookstore with well-curated lists in English and French, including many local authors, and fiction & nonfiction about Montreal. Perfect place to find something excellent to read; knowledgeable and friendly staff.”
“I went there with my friend once. The bookstore is super beautiful and has a very pleasant vintage feel! The gentleman who works there is super nice and welcoming! This place definitely deserves a 5 star!”
“Encore has turned into our new routine of checking vinyls, posters, and books. They have a nice collection of books and posters with reasonable price. We check on vinyls every time and we find interesting stuff! Its very cozy and staff are very nice!”

“What a good place, best bookstore ive been in at montreal so far. Good selection of philosophy books, with most at them at $3-4 only.
Worker is also very nice!”
“This bookstore is one of the most secret and richest treasures in Montreal. It's a veritable Ali-Baba's cave for lovers of classic literature and other belles-lettristes, as the Germans say so well. Everyone will find what they are looking for, at a price that will allow them to fill a big bag of books from which to draw pleasure, wisdom or comfort.”
“This bookstore is an outright treasure. I hopped in here while on vacation to take a quick peek, maybe get a few children's books, and a simple novel for myself to practice French. And I left feeling this experience will likely be one of the top highlights of my trip. They were so welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic to share all kinds of recommendations and information. I am so grateful I stumbled upon this place and that places & humans like this exist. ✨”
“Oh what a beautiful bookstore and local business. Beautiful window and such a beautiful and calm bookstore. A large selection of Quebec books. Go encourage them instead of ordering online from the American whose name starts with A and ends with N. There is no problem with outdoor parking, it is free and spacious. Make sure you lock your vehicle securely.”
“Been here multiple times, the store owner is so incredibly kind and patient with me every single time. Always look forward to coming here even if I can't do it often. Cannot recommend this place enough”
“I love this neighborhood bookstore so much. It smells like paper. I like to stroll among the pens and inks, discovering beautiful books. It’s always a comforting visit when I go!”
“Very pleasant neighborhood bookstore. Kind staff and good advice on buying novels based on what you like. Practical for ordering books which arrive quickly, and advantageous loyalty card. A little treasure on the Fleury promenade.”
“I can only imagine the difficulty of what it would be like to own and operate a store like this today. Excellent customer service! They carry a vast selection of books and toys that cater from children to adults both in French and English. Well worth a visit!”
“A beautiful bookstore full of books on Sri Aurobindo in French, English and Sanskrit! They also have candles, yoga or mediation mats. They have an unguided meditation room on their second floor every Wednesday! The woman who welcomed me was very nice and very friendly!”
“Locally owned bookseller, world-class customer service; a touch on the smaller side but it's my go-to for ordering books! The staff is always helpful, friendly, and easy to get ahold of.”
“Charming neighborhood bookstore, courteous and competent employees. I went there to sell my books and I found the experience more pleasant than at L'Échange. I had time to wander around the store a bit and there were used and new books interspersed, organized by genre. When it comes to selling books, they are interested in literature, philosophy, etc. They don't really take recipe books, English books or young adult books. At 222 (opposite), they will buy young adult/teen books. The two branches buy books at 25% of the market price. In short, good experience and I recommend for buyers (although the selection is not huge) and sellers!
PS: the books you don't sell could delight the foundations and patients of your local hospital, so don't hesitate to head there with what you have left!”

“I go every so often to pick up a new notebook. I find it a dismal reflection of where we're at as a society how hard it is to find any kind of notebook or journal Without lined pages - just blank pages! They keep a single model of blank paged book in stock, which ive purchased several times now, next to maybe 50 varieties of lined pagers. I ask you - how are we expected to exercise our free will, our unburdened imaginations, to nurture the evolving minds of our children, if we only have lined pages to work with????”

“Cette belle petite librairie au marché Jean Talon est magnifique. On trouve des idées cadeaux, des gadgets, des livres de cuisine très bien surtout en français ❤️?? ainsi que des ustensiles !Aujourd'hui ils ont mis leurs beaux paniers à l'extérieur mais les prix sont élevés !!La fille était très gentille et très accueillante.J'ai aimé leurs sacs réutilisables et modifiables ainsi que les petits pots de cuisine...”
“Very large two level store with an impressive book selection. Easy to get distracted by books you didn’t plan to buy. Also great for home and office items, plus a nice coffee place and a piano inside.”

“What a beautiful shop! A carefully curated selection of English books—bestsellers, literary, literary light, graphic novels, cooking, kids, and a focus on Montreal and Judaica (eg a graphic novel about Leonard Cohen.) Everything in the staff picks section looked interesting. These are the kinds of shops that survive the amazons and indigos. Highly recommend.”
“I’m absolutely amazed by the incredible collection of items this shop offers! The quality of their products is outstanding — I especially love that their caps are New Era and that they carry so many unique collectible items. The staff is always friendly and welcoming; I recently had to make a small exchange because of a mistake on my part, and the employee who helped me was incredibly kind, polite, and helpful. I truly appreciate his excellent service. I highly recommend this store — the students working here provide exceptional customer service and make every visit a great experience!”
“I think I went to this location (it was in the Metro station, so it may have been the one two blocks away). Great store—not just books in several languages (mostly French, but has English, plus a few other languages). Vinyl, DVDs, games and puzzles, etc etc. Just a lot of fun. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff directed me to the right area.
But for and American visitor, the prices of books in Canada is shocking! I bought a French. Edition of a Harry Potter book, paper back. I did not even look at the price. But when I got home and glanced at the receipt I thought there was an error. So I looked at the book and saw that it was, in fact, the price: CAD$59. OMG. That’s about US$43. For a paper back copy of Harry Potter! The book has a List Price in EUR of 30, which is about USD35, so it’s was probably an import or something. Note, this has nothing to do with Renault-Bray, and everything to do with the way the publishing industry works in Canada and Europe. I can get a French version of HP from Amazon for USD15! So, not my best purchase, but I learned a lesson. Anyway, great and fun store, and if you’re a visitor to Canada, a great place to find some meaningful souvenirs. (But you can still skip the tchotchkes made in China!)”
“This is what a bookstore should be! Inviting, well curated (with a discernable point of view) and a broad selection. The location and the highly burnished wood floors just adds to the overall appeal of the place. A really good place for relaxed browsing and snooping.”
