“Jamie at DePaul is a kind and knowledgeable PRO.
I had a seawater hose clamp break causing melting of a plastic secondary muffler and a near fire because of overheat of the exhaust system. By luck I noticed no water coming from exhaust and shut it down, the coolant did not leave the engine. The thick smoke was terrifying but had not ignited yet. Needless to say I was worried I lost the engine. DePaul was extremely busy but Jamie was a voice of reason and logic and took the time to call me and talked me through how to see what damage there was. For NO CHARGE he shared years of priceless knowledge with me. We were lucky, we caught this before any damage to the engine was done. He did not have to take this time and I appreciate his generosity and expertise.
BTW, I highly recommend an inexpensive exhaust heat alarm on every boat as insurance that you don’t ever experience a scary situation like this that can result in a fire and or terminal damage to a boat and your safety.
And of course, get DePaul to install it!
