“I had the pleasure of visiting Black Octopus Mercantile, owned by lovely local artist Missy Johnson, on a trip to North Charleston from Canada. The shop, which came highly recommended by locals, is filled with fun, quirky gifts and souvenirs that perfectly capture the easy-going and free-spirited vibe of North Charleston featuring Missy’s original designs.
I very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with Missy herself as she was running the till that day. Her love for her community is palpable. We spoke at length about the importance of reviving the area and bringing more folks to North Charleston. Her passion to her craft and dedication to the community could be felt in every small detail and kind word she had.
I found out this is a new storefront and the place looks fantastic, and is a great addition to the neighbourhood, complimenting its spirit and culture. It would be wonderful to see the community and the city show her the appreciation she so richly deserves.
A must-visit for anyone travelling through North Charleston!”

“This is an awesome little boutique hidden down W Doty Ave that has so much to offer, my wife really enjoys going there. They have a section in there called Shine Daily that has vinyl and glitter, anything for craft projects. Custom t-shirts, clothing, shoes, purses and essential oils. If I’m looking for a quick gift for my wife this is the place with great selection and prices.”
