“A Vacation-Saving Transmission Repair Experience
My wife and I were vacationing in Myrtle Beach on May 19, 2026, when we experienced a transmission problem with our 2005 Dodge Ram equipped with a Cummins engine and 48RE transmission. We were about 30 miles from Myrtle Beach, pulling our 28-foot fifth-wheel camper, when the transmission began coming out of second gear.
We were concerned that we might have to put our camper in storage at the end of our vacation and somehow drive the truck four hours back home to Charlotte, find a transmission shop, and then return to Myrtle Beach later to retrieve our camper.
Fortunately, someone recommended KT & Sons Transmission. About four days into our vacation, I took the truck to the shop, where Patrick inspected it and suggested that I bring it back the following morning.
The next morning, Patrick dropped the transmission pan to change the fluids and discovered a band clip sitting in the bottom of the pan. He reattached the band clip, completed the fluid service, and took the truck for a test drive.
The difference was incredible. On the way back to the campground, the truck was driving like it hadn't driven in months. Thanks to Patrick and KT & Sons Transmission, I was not only able to drive the truck four hours back home, but I was also able to pull my fifth-wheel camper home with it. Best of all, we didn't have to pay for storage or make another trip back to Myrtle Beach to retrieve our camper.
Patrick was extremely knowledgeable about transmissions and took the time to explain everything to me. I truly appreciate his honesty, expertise, and willingness to help us when we were in a difficult situation far from home.
I now know that I have a transmission technician and a shop I can trust whenever I'm vacationing in the Myrtle Beach area. I highly recommend KT & Sons Transmission to anyone who needs knowledgeable, honest transmission service.
