“If you’re searching for one of the best places to stay in Gatlinburg, Greystone Lodge on the River should be at the top of your list. This family-owned classic has been a fixture in the Smoky Mountains since the 1960s, and while it holds onto that rustic mountain-lodge character, the lodge is in the middle of a thoughtful remodel that’s bringing new life to its guest rooms. Fresh floors and furnishings give the space a clean, modern touch, yet the design stays true to the Smoky Mountain vibe that has made it a favorite for generations. It’s like swapping your old hiking boots for a new pair that still feel broken in on the first day.
One of the best-kept secrets at Greystone is in the six-story riverfront building. If you can snag a room ending in 55 through 61, you’ll fall asleep to the sound of the Little Pigeon River. The steady rush of the water makes for the perfect hillbilly lullaby—better than any white noise machine money can buy.
The location is unbeatable. You’re just steps away from major Gatlinburg attractions like Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Anakeesta, and the SkyPark, and you can easily walk to countless restaurants, pancake houses, wineries, and of course, the famous Gatlinburg moonshine distilleries. With free parking included, you can leave the car behind and explore downtown Gatlinburg on foot, which makes the value here even stronger compared to other hotels in the area.
Greystone Lodge recently added a beautiful new patio with fire tables that’s perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. Grab a bottle from a local winery or a mason jar of moonshine from Ole Smoky and settle in by the fire for an evening that feels straight out of a Smoky Mountain postcard.
The staff here deserve a special mention too—they’re as warm as a campfire on a chilly mountain night and always ready to help with directions, dining tips, or a friendly word. The only weak pour in the whole experience is the complimentary breakfast. It will get you by, but Gatlinburg is loaded with pancake houses and diners that make breakfast an attraction in its own right, so it’s worth venturing out.
When you add it all up—freshly remodeled rooms, classic Smoky Mountain character, a riverfront location, new patio amenities, and walking-distance access to downtown—Greystone Lodge on the River stands out as one of the best hotels in Gatlinburg for families, couples, and anyone who wants to enjoy the heart of the Smokies without giving up comfort or convenience. Like a good barrel of Tennessee moonshine, this lodge just gets better with time.”

“Room was clean, inexpensive and roomy! Enjoyed all the outdoor seating available around the property. Staff was friendly and helpful. Indoor pool was beautiful and pool side cafe was nice to grab coffee and breakfast in the morning.”
“Here from FL for week long vacation. Each condo is different and are privately owned. Please don't let the drive up here scare you. I came end of March in a Honda pilot and my friend in Honda civic had no issues. There are a few narrow turns so just go slow to make sure no one is coming in opposite direction. My hard had no problem making it up in the hill even in the rain. We actually thought it was fun”

“We enjoyed our Airbnb there. Great views from top floor of building 1. There were a few things that needed fixed but nothing huge. It is an older complex. I liked the pool and 2 hot tubs. We ended up needed to do a load of laundry, and that was fine. The game room was 3 machines. I would stay again.”
“This place is no more but my wife and I stayed there every time we went to Gatlinburg. Very historic and wonderful old hotel. We miss this place and was sorry to see it torn down.”

“We are on our last day of a week here and have loved it! The rooms are very nice and they clean them every day. The hotel is in close walking distance to so many things. We will definitely stay here again.”
“I was surprisingly very happy with our room! The hotel look itself and the reviews made me skeptical. But it was GREAT!! We stayed on the backside 1st floor street view, and NEVER heard a vehicle or people. The bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows) are super comfy!!! Although there were definitely some imperfections when it comes to looks, I can honestly say it was extremely clean!!! My husband and I will definitely stay again!!
Rooms: Room was extremely clean!! Beds very very comfortable!! Great TV size!!
Nearby activities: Wine tasting, lots of yummy restaurants, shopping and even a Walgreens for those few items you may have forgotten to pack!
Safety: Fully functioning door locks and zero safety concerns during our stay!
Walkability: Although it's at the end of the parkway, it is very quiet and we had no issues walking to restaurants or attractions during our stay.”

“The hotel is an very clean place. The people are very friendly here and that hey have a fitness room that looks decent as for have having a wonderful place to go out on and look out on the second floor.”
“Nadir was so friendly and helpful. I am disabled and he went out of his way to do stuff for us. We rented a scooter from him. He brought it to me and even came back to the hotel to help us with it when we accidentally messed the key up. I cannot stress enough how kind and friendly he was. He helped us with stuff other than the scooter too. Even texting one night when I got physically sick to see if there was anything he could do for us. I highly recommend going to see him. Cute store, great price on mobility scooters and the service can't be beat. We'll definitely be using him and his family's shop from now on. One of the friendliest people I've ever met.”

“Love the friendly smiles we have gotten both times we stayed there. Love the location and the beds are very comfortable. The balcony is nice except you see your neighbor but that is not a deal breaker. I have read other reviews about it being old or pics misleading but it’s not brain surgery researching the place before you go. It goes without saying that people are very hard to please nowadays. Having said that, we are not hard to please and we don’t mind older buildings. I have stayed in more expensive hotels condos etc. and they have been dirty and loud so it happens (especially in Gatlinburg). Every business has an off day when it comes to customer service,
cleanliness, policies or maintenance issues but so far I have always been treated kind during every interaction! We will be back. AH”
“Lived the rooms, they are decently clean. The only thing is I smoke and they won't even let you smoke off the back balcony of your room. I understand that they don't want you smoking on the balcony that everyone walks down to come or go but your own private balcony from your room. That's taken it a little too far. We paid almost 700.00 for 3 nights and you had to walk out to other side of parking lot to smoke and being in a wheelchair makes it a little difficult to do Everytime you wanted to go smoke.”
“Rooms we're clean, just some things needed updated, housekeeping was great checked on room every day and restocked what was needed, location was within walking distance to everything.”
“Great little rooms located in the heart of gatlinburg.. very convenient for walking around the town.. owned by a very nice indian family...would ?% stay here again”
