“Walking down (or up?) Beale Street on a Saturday afternoon I just happened to notice the Museum & Gallery with a modest sign on the door that said, "Pay What You Wish Today." I was not previously aware of Dr. Earnest C. Withers and his iconic photographs documenting the Civil Rights Movement, but when I poked my head in to check it out, I immediately knew it was worth an in-depth look and I beckoned my traveling companion (a talented photographer in his own right) to join me in stopping by. As I previously mentioned, though I never heard of Withers, I quickly realized that I've seen some of his most famous photos in other museums, documentary films, and history books. Beyond those few examples, I was impressed by the hundreds of photographs capturing both important figures and events in the Civil Rights Movement. Withers was a truly talented photographer with unprecedented access to people and events, and a great eye for capturing frames that tell an important story. I'd recommend stopping in whether it's "Pay Whatever Day" or not. I was happy to make a generous contribution. (BTW -- you can see more of Withers' work at the National Civil Rights Museum -- another five star venue -- reviewed separately).”

“The Green Room is one of just a handful of listening rooms in Memphis with the cool Art ? Bar adjacent but enough of a buffer zone that the bar noise doesn't filter in. Kinda a house concert vibe.Crosstown theater hosts some slightly bigger shows and has films every Thursday.”

“Anna and I were looking for something meatless and tasty. We had gone to the pedestrian bridge on the Mississippi river and walked across from Tennessee to Arkansas and back, so hungry we were. I enjoyed the historical location near the civil rights museum and MLK jr. assassination site. The place was quaint and the staff was most friendly. We liked the inside or outside option, though decided to eat inside today. I will say the food was tasty and the only reason for the lack of 5 stars was no falafel. I am sure there is a good reason for it and we did enjoy our experience. Good quality and courteous associates.”

“I'm here several times a month for various events. Very reasonable rental prices. The staff are great. The spaces can be transformed to fit any event theme. The one downside is parking. Which is to be expected with downtown venues. This location is great for weddings, birthdays, brunch and more.”

“The management staff are very insightful and knowledgeable about Memphis culture and the world culture. A hidden jewel, a spectacular venue for a special small gathering where you could social distance with ease. Very eclectic experience. Thank you Anthony Lee for the experience.”

“I found this business on TikTok when I was looking for things to do in Memphis. I knew this establishment would be a perfect activity for my crew. Wherever we go we want to patronize Black owned businesses and learn something about our people or culture. My two friends stumbled upon it riding around the city and told me about it to which I showed them it was on my itinerary of things to do.The place is actually what looks like a former home turned into a shop. I love it because I already know there is going to be something in there that I cannot find anywhere else. I was absolutely correct ?. As soon as you step in the door you get this warm feeling like you stepped into someone's home. The person that was there welcomed us in and let us just browse as much as we wanted. There is a book section. My God if I had the money I would have purchased so much. All kind of books, wall appliques, clothing, jewelry, masks, dresses, cloth material, healing herbs, salves, soaps, Shea butter, candy, walking sticks, statues and so much more. You could really spend a lot of time in there which we did. Please check it out.”
