Emma Long Metropolitan Park is a large, beautiful, and family-friendly outdoor space in Austin. Visitors enjoy its quiet atmosphere, scenic views, and water access at Lake Austin. The park features a small sandy beach with shallow water, perfect for kids to play safely, and offers plenty of space for picnics, relaxing, or just enjoying nature. The shoreline and surrounding areas are great for walking, hanging out, and taking in the views of the Colorado River and large houses across the water.
The park also has a 2.8-mile loop hike, which is easy and offers stunning cliffside views. While the hike is mostly easy, some rocky parts mean sturdy shoes are helpful. Wildlife such as deer can be seen wandering around, adding to the peaceful atmosphere. Visitors note that restrooms are generally clean but could use some maintenance, and early mornings can be noisy due to park staff using leaf blowers.
Water activities are popular, though boat traffic can be heavy, and some areas have rocky surfaces, so water shoes are recommended. The park is ideal for picnics, swimming, and relaxing days outdoors, especially if visited early in the day or on weekdays. Overall, Emma Long Metropolitan Park provides a spacious, scenic escape from city life, with opportunities for recreation, wildlife viewing, and enjoying nature’s tranquility.
We planned this unique breakfast with friends one Sunday morning. It’s a lovely spot. You can choose to sit in the open air or in gazebos that offer shade from the sun; we only paid a $10 fee at the entrance for all-day parking—that was it. It was a great experience, and I recommend it.

Pretty decent spot. Good for paddle boarding and watching jetski kids rip. Kayaking, little difficult but doable.
