The Walgreen Company, more commonly referred to as Walgreens, is a United States-based company that holds the title of the second largest chain in America. Their services include prescription filling, health information, health and wellness products and photo services. It is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. Founded in 1901, Walgreens started as a single corner store that began to multiply slowly as the years went on. After opening shops away from residential areas in 1923, by the mid-1920s, Walgreens had 44 stores with sales of $1,200,000 annually. By 1930, it operated 397 stores with $4,000,000 in sales. Today, Walgreens has a total of 8,177 stores in every state, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
