Basket Books and Art is an independent community bookstore and art gallery in east Montrose specializing in contemporary art, literature, and thought. The store offers select general interest titles, art objects, and paper goods. The exhibition space features local and emerging contemporary artists. Customers describe the shop as an astonishing, beautiful store with great vibes and lots of natural light. The selection is really interesting and intelligent, with a wonderful array of art books for deeper thinkers. It feels artsy but still welcoming to children, with a cool experience. The rotating collection of the free gallery upstairs is also a highlight. The staff is always very nice, helpful, and responsive. The store ships quickly and is recommended for shopping in person or online. Some wish for more copies of top selling books in stock and longer hours. Overall, it is a new favorite Houston bookstore.

Excellent selection of literature, especially zines. I especially appreciated the selection of southern and Texas based books/zines. Loved chatting and getting recommendations from the staff. Also, the gallery upstairs featured several wonderful sculptures from a local artist. This is a must visit on your trip to Houston!

Excellent little artsy bookstore. Montrose has been missing a store like this since Domy closed. Will be back for sure.
