The Rothko Chapel is a serene and contemplative space that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the captivating mural canvases of artist Mark Rothko. Founded by Houston philanthropists, the chapel emphasizes a technology-free and silent environment to encourage inward focus and meditation. Outside, Barnett Newman's sculpture, Broken Obelisk, stands as a poignant reminder of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The chapel's peaceful atmosphere and the surrounding park make it a popular destination for those seeking tranquility and a connection with art and history. Visitors can enjoy the pleasant little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city, with nearby food spots offering the opportunity to enjoy a chill lunch while admiring the art exhibit. While the indoor chapel may be closed for repairs due to water or flood damage, the outdoor areas, including the pond and the Broken Obelisk, remain open for visitors to explore and appreciate the site's artistic and historical significance.
One of my favorite places in Houston. A deep peaceful stillness in the middle of the city. Small circular building with a few huge modern paintings and some benches.
If you’re scared of your own thoughts… don’t go! :)

It's a work of art, a piece of history, and effectively a public monument
Just see it for yourself, lol

The Rothko Chapel is an incredible place—peaceful, moving, and beautifully maintained. Kelly Johnson is the best and was truly great to work with: professional, responsive, and thoughtful throughout. Highly recommend visiting and working with this team.
