“I was happy to see this market in an article from the Wasatch Record. I had driven past Coalville from the Wasatch back going to Wyoming or Idaho using the highways nearby but never stopped. Since the building no longer has the Neena’s Market sign above the doors, I was driving slowly and saw the sandwich board sign that lit my heart up warmly. “Tamales Today”.

I parked right in front and walked in to see what felt like a time warp from my own life. Growing up in another state with rural roots, the local “Tiendita” was right here. The only thing missing was a Ms. PacMan machine in the corner but it was replaced by an ice cream cooler.

I went to the back where the orders are placed, took my piece of paper up to the register and paid, then went back to sit down.

I knew it was gonna be legit when the lady walked out with my food and didn’t try to check if I paid. She just left this plate of delicious tacos in front of me. I ordered 3 Carnitas tacos with the rice & beans. $11 is a good price and they were better than I expected. I didn’t have to ask for cilantro, onions, lime and salsa verde, it came on the dish already. The rice and beans were authentic and ready to be mixed together as I have always done since childhood.

This place isn’t fancy. The flavors, sounds and memories took me back to a special place in my life.

Don’t bring people who don’t know authentic Mexican food here. (These tacos don’t come with shredded cheese, diced tomatoes and sourcream).
