“One thing for sure is that military life has some drawbacks, but from time to time you come across some pretty awesome benefits, and access to exchanges and commissaries is definitely one of them.
Whenever I'm up in the Northern Virginia area near the five-sided building with five rings and need to stock up on supplies, I find that the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Commissary is quite a bit more affordable than the local Harris Teeter. While it may not be as massive as some of the larger commissaries around the country, it's certainly not small either, and it's very well stocked across the board with most of the groceries and household items you might need.
On this particular visit, I picked up a few essentials along with some grapes and a little cheese. I also made a stop by the hot bar, where I grabbed some rib pieces and barbecue wings. Everything was fresh, and it made for a great meal to enjoy outside on a beautiful day with the weather cooperating perfectly.
One of the things I appreciate most about this commissary is how easy it is to get in, find what you need, and get back on your way. The selection is solid, the prices are competitive, and the store is generally well maintained. Whether you're doing a full grocery run or just grabbing a few items, it gets the job done without any hassle.
If you're in the military, eligible to shop there, and happen to be in the area, it's definitely worth stopping by when you need groceries. The savings can add up, and it's one of those benefits that reminds you there are still a few perks that come along with military life.”

“No complaints... Aldi is the no-frills, minimum investment for highest yield grocery store
A lot of random, one shipment only finds...
Housewares include pots, pans, silverware, glassware, mugs, coffee station supplies, bakeware and baking supplies
Also gardening tools and supplies... seriously!
They have indoor and outdoor furniture and even plants, flowers, herbs in pots and bouquet flowers!
They have greeting cards for holidays and special events
U can almost always find organization gadgets and items
They have some supplies for vehicles
They have pet toys, gadgets and supplies
This truly is 1 of the most random store I've seen! All stores don't have same inventory; some have larger selections
BUT a lot of stuff is low quality soooo choose wisely!
But it's best 2 shop within first week or so, when items come in season because employees say they can't order additional inventory
AND their systems are so antiquated that data isn't accurate... systems may show amount in stock but store may be sold out!

“Large commissary, newer, clean, Organized, great offerings, great prices, large produce section and bakery section. Plenty of meat from beef, pork, chicken. Store is identical to a full scale civilian grocery store in size, offerings, products available and number of check out lines and self checkout options. Returns are always easy if any issues, customer service is always pleasant and excellent. Oftentimes the management or supervisors are attentive and notice if a line develops to offer or open more self check out kiosks if they are able too depending on end of day counts and reports for each.”
“This place is a great place to get fresh meats. They explained things to me about the meats. They helped me pick out seasonings and marinades for the meats. I will definitely be coming back again. When you walk in, you do not smell any hint of meat smell like you would in a regular grocery store. They even cut my rack of lamb up for me.”

“World Food / Alem Gebeya is more than just a store — it’s a true community hub for Ethiopian and Eritrean families in the DMV area. The owner is incredibly kind, and the customer service is always A+. They carry everything from fresh injera and gluten-free injera (the best you’ll find anywhere in the DMV!) to quality meat, spices, and other authentic food products. It’s the perfect place to shop for all the essentials, and you always feel welcomed like family. Highly recommend!”

“The parking lot is sketchy, there’s homeless folk, drug users and people begging for money passing through. Thankfully, the security guards and hard working staff here make up for it with their smiling faces, positive attitudes and efficiency. There’s a Hispanic lady who’s manager during the day. I can’t remember her name but she went above and beyond to help me locate my cell phone after I accidentally left it in a shopping cart. In my experience, customer service here is excellent and continues to exceed my expectations.”
“Quaint Hispanic Grocery store located in a nice residential neighborhood. This location offers a good variety of spices and other foodstuff needed for authentic dishes. They didn't have everything we needed but it's a great small business to patronize nonetheless.
This store is best visited by public transit or by foot since there is limited street parking.”
“During our purchase, we encountered an unfortunate situation where the atta bag we bought was discovered to be opened upon lifting it into our car. When we attempted to return it, the manager, along with other staff members, displayed rude and unprofessional behavior. They declined responsibility, stating that the issue occurred outside the store and was therefore not their concern. However, it was the exceptional assistance of the counter lady that salvaged the situation. Her efficient and customer-oriented service stood in stark contrast to the manager's dismissive attitude. It was only due to her intervention that the problem was eventually resolved. The conduct of the manager and some of your staff members were unfair. The role of a manager should be centered on conflict resolution and customer satisfaction, not dismissive behavior that drives customers away. I hope this feedback prompts a reevaluation of the store's customer service policies and staff training, as this incident reflects poorly on the store's reputation and has resulted in the loss of a loyal customer.My review is for improvement for betterment.”

“This was my first time visiting this market. Even though it’s mainly a Latin American grocery store, I was honestly surprised to find so many ingredients I needed to cook Vietnamese food. I found rice paper for making Vietnamese spring rolls, fresh rice noodles to cook pho at home, and some really nice cuts of beef that would be perfect for making beef jerky.
The fruits and vegetables were very fresh and clean, and everything looked well organized. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the shopping experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back here more often.”
