“Before there was a Walmart, Food Lion, Kroger's, Best Buy, Lowe's, Southern State's, Ace Hardware, Blanton & Pleasants were those stores all wrapped up in one. My parents used to shop there every week, and around the holiday season would get all your gifts.
Back when there wasn't a place to purchase quality meats, this was the place to go. You could walk in and go to the meat department and get fresh cut meat of all types. Any grocery items you needed were always there and always fresh. Any hardware for around your living quarters, they had it. All of your farming supplies were also here. There were plumbing supplies, electrical supplies, fishing equipment, gun shop, painting supplies, gardening supplies, gas, kerosene oil, building supplies, even bicycles, little red wagons, something for the whole family was at Blanton & Pleasant and there one thing at this store you could never find anywhere else, free air for your tires.
Over the years a lot of the family members either retired or passed, there's one member of the family that has kept the doors open, Spanky Pleasants and his wife June Pleasants. The store became a part of history in the Cartersville Village. A landmark to those who knew of it and those who move in the area. It still has some of the supplies that you can't find in other places, but after the businesses of Ace Hardware, big grocery changes came in, and these better hardware and farm supplies opened up, it took a toll on the business. I still go to this store to pick up hard to find items that the modem stores don't even have.
It's still a great little place to shop for different stuff, but nothing like it used to be. But if you are searching for a little Shop that has something for everyone, this is still that little place. Hometown Shopping at its best.”
