“I’m finally taking a few minutes to write the long winded review I’ve wanted to leave for TFW aka Training For Warriors for some time .. and golly, where do I begin?! I knew when I started here (almost 3 years ago now) that I would want to write a raving review of this gem of a place I found, thanks to an acquaintance. I didn’t write a review back then though because I didn’t trust myself enough to fully commit ~ since I have a history of not being disciplined with exercising and gyms. Luckily for me now I can say I’m far more disciplined than ever (and I actually prefer working out in the morning!) not to mention I’m the strongest I’ve ever been. Thanks to the coaches and all the great things that TFW has to offer.
Like a lot of us, I’ve never been a gym person, but I tried many times to become one. TFW dojo is different from a typical gym. Also, I often feel like gyms are gray or just dark, and a bit stale feeling. TFW is warm, colorful, bright, open and very inviting. (Which helps on those dark, early morning workouts in the winter.)
If you’ve ever been worried about looking like a dummy while trying to learn a bunch of new exercise moves.. then this truly is a safe place for you. Hear me when I say Coach Travis, Coach Gabi and Coach Danita go over every move, every time, in every class. That’s huge!! They always gently guide you to correct form, and make a point to meet you exactly where you are. Not ready to do trap bars yet? No problem, they’ll have you work your way up to that without judgment. Shoulder or other injuries? No problem! They have modifications for everything! They also have multiple class times to choose from. From small or big groups, to personal training, every class is fun, educational, motivating, inspiring, challenging, energizing.. the list goes on. I always leave smiling, proud, and glad I went.
Last thing: Admittedly one of my absolute favorite things about TFW is not having to think about what I’m going to work out for the day’s session. Upper body today? Lower body tomorrow? Nope. They make sure it’s a full body workout each time. I simply walk in and the warm ups, the exercise plan and the cool downs are set out for us. You literally just have to show up and do the work. No more guesswork makes it easier for me to come back again and again. And I genuinely WANT to come back. The challenges have shown me what I’m capable of. I also love that I get to tap into my inner athlete when we move to outdoor workouts in the summer. Favorite thing!!
Thanks to coaches like Travis, Gabi and Danita ~ they make working out fun, especially for someone like me. I’ll forever be grateful to them. I could go on and on about how great this place is ~ but you’ll just have to try it and see for yourself. You have nothing to lose but your previous notions about gyms and exercising 💪”

“Such a great resource especially in the winter where there are few places on island for littles to get their wiggles out. Wish the place could be open more often - there is no shortage of demand”
“James changed my life for the better. Before I was treated by him I could not get out of bed unassisted, walking & sitting were painful and my quality of life was unbearable. As a mother of 5 in her mid-30’s this was no way to live. After one assessment by James he recommended a lift in one of my shoes to compensate for a short leg issue brought on from scoliosis. 15 + years and many pairs of lifted shoes later and I am still pain free and able to do the things I enjoy again. Without James’ expertise I know my life would not be as full as it is now.”
“Was working out til way into my pregnancy here. Then after giving birth I joined a mommy and baby postnatal pilates class with Daviana and had such a wonderful time! It was just what I needed and she was very accommodating and supportive of where I was in my healing. I was able to workout and still take care of my baby. ♥ Grateful for Island Fitness!”
