About Whatcom Humane Society
Whatcom Humane Society is a shelter where people can adopt pets and find wonderful animals ready to join a new family. The staff and volunteers are pleasant and do great work, setting animals up for success with socialization, walks, playtime, and training programs. They really care and help make medical needs less scary for adopters. The shelter is not a no kill shelter, so picking a senior pet is highly recommended. The process for adoption is fantastic.
Donations of food, supplies, funds, and volunteer time are appreciated and valued. Extra pet supplies are sometimes put out front for free for people in need. The humane society can also help provide food when money is tight. For anyone wanting the companionship of a pet, it is highly recommended to adopt from a shelter, as these animals are infinitely more affectionate and kind. They know you chose them.

Had to pick up a cat to transfer to another shelter, staff were very nice and had a bathroom

Excellent place to find a pet and adopt them! While I was recently disappointed in one miscommunication I am thrilled with our newest (to be picked up tomorrow morning) doggo! Photo was taken during our private room visit Friday, Sept 18, 2026. I can't wait to pick our little guy up tomorrow morning!

Checked in about our lost cat. Staff was very helpful. No luck for us. But it was eye opening about how many stay cats that are received there. While we were there a small kitten came in that was found his cry sounded like a bird.
