I cannot say enough good things about this veterinary team.
From the moment we walked in, Andrea, the vet assistant, was exceptional — compassionate, attentive, and genuinely kind. She took the time to listen, asked thoughtful questions, and treated my cat with such care and respect that it immediately put me at ease. You can tell when someone truly loves animals and understands how stressful vet visits can be — Andrea is that person.
Dr. Steve and Dr. Nick were equally outstanding. Both doctors were thorough, knowledgeable, and patient, explaining everything clearly without rushing or dismissing concerns. They approached the situation with a balance of clinical expertise and genuine empathy, which is exactly what you hope for when your pet’s health is on the line. I felt fully informed, supported, and confident in the care plan moving forward.
What really stood out was the team dynamic — everyone worked seamlessly together, communicated clearly, and treated both pets and people with respect. It never felt transactional; it felt like a team that truly cares.

“I was looking for a new vet because we had recently moved and my cat was sick. It was really easy to schedule an appointment online. Once I did, I was called shortly after with a recommendation that he come in sooner and provided availability for same day appointments. The staff was all very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. My cat is very warry of new people, especially when he's being poked and looked at during a vet appointment. He was so comfortable and relaxed, so I was, too. The provided detailed care instructions which include quick solutions to try to address his illness. The price was also really reasonable. Overall, would highly recommend Small Animal Hospital.”

“Dr. Sherer is fantastic! I highly recommend them. Cat care in general is not cheap, so don’t go in expecting to spend $100 one time and never worry about your cat again. Dr. Sherer went above and beyond to inform me everything about my cat’s teeth extraction and cleaning. They called in advance for optional procedures and outlined every step of the process. I’m very grateful for their expertise and they are well worth the money.”
“My mother and i extend our sincerest gratitude for how wonderful and kind the staff were towards our Misty. Dr. Amy is absolutely brilliant and was a great comfort when our girl passed. Because of her, we felt much more confident that we were doing the right thing for Misty.
She’s home with us now, in a beautiful box with her sweet paw prints alongside the lovely card we were sent. When we are ready to bring a new pet into our lives, we are absolutely coming here again.
This team really cares, they remember you, and look forward to seeing you and your pet, they are very intelligent, respectful, and mindful. The first thing Dr. Amy said when she saw us was that she missed us, that was so sweet to hear especially on such a hard day. The staff were so lovely, offering water and letting us take our time, i really liked that we paid in the room instead of in the waiting room cause my mom and i were a MESS (understandably so.)
Misty felt really comfortable and safe here.

“I’ve been a client at Downtown Veterinary Clinic since April 2023, when I moved to Milwaukee from New York City with my Cavalier King Charles lady. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to her that October. During that heartbreaking time, we received the most compassionate end-of-life care; sensitive, gentle, and deeply respectful of both her and us. The team helped her cross the rainbow bridge peacefully in our arms, and I’ll always be grateful for that kindness.
More recently, our new family member, a Papillon-Chihuahua mix, became ill and I had to rush her in. The staff saw her promptly, clearly explained all treatment options, and offered two financial pathways so we could make an informed decision. I truly appreciated how transparent and considerate both the doctor and technician were throughout the visit.

“I love the doctor and her team here! Everyone is so nice and calm to where even my ferret was calm and not freaking out. I was recommended of off one of Wisconsin Ferret Facebook groups and was worried they would have a doctor with broad knowledge. But the doctor here had so much information and experience working with ferrets. Abba and I had the best time. They did so amazing with her that she accepted a nail trim and barely squirmed around. I am a 100% making this Abbas permanent vet they are everything I can ask for and more in an exotic vet.”

I have four dogs and I immediately pull all four from that clinic. A friend refer me to West Allis Animal Hospital and for the last six years that were all my dogs go. Their staff is friendly from the Animal Tech to the Doctors. Excellent Care!”
