Grocery Stores in Newcastle, WY

“I traveled through Newcastle a few weeks ago, stayed at the Pine Country Hotel and shopped at Woody's Food Center. I love the small town feel and the fact that Woody took an old Safeway and kept the store in great shape. The shelves were full when I was there. The place was clean and bright. I even bought a t-shirt that I wear around in Southern California. Thanks to the friendly people.”

“This may be the only grocery store that I have ever written a review for up to this point. However, some things are worth considering when visiting this Deckers in Newcastle.

First, the store was very clean. You could have eaten off of the floor tiles.

Second, except for our very first visit when we met an employee who had probably had a bad day, the rest of our trips were pleasant. Staff were willing to help us find things and engaged in small chatter. To be fair, our first visit was about 10-15 minutes before they closed for the evening.

Third, the coffee kiosk was really good. The young lady working the counter there was attentive and quick producing the drinks ordered of each customer. There is a large seating area and even a gas fire for those colder days when you just want to warm up and sit with a book for a little while.

So, why only 4 stars? Simple - the pricing was ridiculous. I recognize that this was Newcastle, but a gallon of milk and cartons of juice that was at least $2 more than other parts of the state. I recognize that Newcastle is small, but I have been in much smaller towns in Wyoming where the prices were not so exorbitant.

Final assessment, small items or need to pick up a few supplies, it would be better to make sure you shop in a bigger town before arriving to Newcastle. This is one of a handful of family owned and run grocery stores which may also explain the need for a little higher price point, but some of the prices felt more like gouging because there were no other options in Newcastle.”
