Rascals Pet Supplies & Grooming Ltd
3804 Edmonton Trl, CalgaryI called ahead late Saturday afternoon to be sure they had my cat’s food in stock. They did and put it behind the front counter for me. With my arrival about 5 minutes before they were due to close, this helped me immensely! You don’t get service like this everywhere. I also like that Rascals is independently owned. Small business is the heart of our economy.

The Wild Bird Store
5901 3 St SE, CalgaryThis is the best and largest wild bird store I’ve ever been in. If you want a raucous greeting of, yes, wild birds outside, a friendly and expert staff, a local service-driven and family-owned business, this is THE place. The inventory is huge and excellent – an hour there would just “fly by.” I met Mack Brown and his daughter Kristin when their colourful van arrived to personally deliver large bags of seeds, nuts and suet cakes. They don’t need to advertise - love for creatures and their warmth to their customers brings us to them.

Tails A Waggin
7017 Ogden Rd SE, CalgaryIf I could give this place a thousand stars I would! First of all the prices are amazing…. Now if that doesn’t win you over, the owners, are amazing, nothing but friendly, kind, and will go out of their way to make sure your furry friend is taken care of. I have taken my dog to other places (prior to finding Tails-A-Waggin) and they were negative experiences. At Tails-A-Waggin my dog looks amazing, but also is so happy and comfortable here. I cannot recommend them enough, I tell everyone I know (even if they live on the other side of the city- it’s worth the drive) to see them!

Doggydos by Lisa
176 Taravista Crescent NE, CalgaryI've been taking my girl Miss Radish to Lisa for about 4 - 5 months now. Every time Lisa is very helpful and patient with both Radish and me. I'm a senior and a bit disabled. So Lisa always comes out to my Jeep to pick Radish up and return her. Radish is a very fearful dog and Lisa always takes lots of time to offer her treats and talk to me while Radish relaxes. Her grooming is excellent - Radish looks so clean and fresh after - so beautiful. Lisa also let's me come late in the afternoon - which is wonderful. I'm a night owl and I'm never up early. Plus I'm very slow doing anything and it drives most people crazy. Not Lisa - she's so patient. If you're looking for a caring excellent groomer call Doggie dos by Lisa. She's wonderful.

Pet Care
Animal Clinic
820 10 St SW #1, CalgaryI’ve had Labrador Retrievers my entire adulthood and when we moved from Toronto we found the Animal Clinic simply because it was close to where we lived. What an amazing stroke of luck this was. Our chocolate lab Jack, who was my best friend, my everyday companion and teacher to everyone to move forward always with love, and my absolute soul dog. He was about 9 years old when we first met Dr. Joe, and he guided us through the couple good years we had left, and then through the unbearable months when Jack would come in nearly every other week to get a status on how his breathing was going (he had inflammation in his lungs that made it difficult to breath). For the last two years of his life I pushed him everywhere in a cart and he walked when he wanted to and got a ride when he wasn’t up for walking, but mostly I pushed him to the river so he could enjoy his number one love, swimming. When it was time to let him go it was done with love, compassion and sensitivity; Dr. Joe made the hardest thing I have ever had to do as peaceful, respectful and as lovingly as he could for my great big hearted Jack. When I said goodbye, I knew he went painlessly, surrounded by love; there’s no one on earth I would have wanted with us more than Dr. Joe. When I left the clinic alone, I didn’t think I’d ever be able to have another dog. When I picked up his ashes, the staff gave me the most beautiful card with a sketch of a lab’s head on the front and everyone not only signed it, but wrote something lovely about their memories of Jack. They included clippings of his fur in the card. His ashes are now inside his favourite ball and the rest are in his favourite swimming hole. As it happens, I did move on (though I still miss Jack terribly) and now I take my Lab Finnegan to see Dr. Joe. This clinic was sensitive to my feelings, and memories of losing Jack, so they didn’t bring Finnegan and me to the room where Jack died when I brought him in. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dr. Joe and his team. You will always be treated with compassion and kindness and will be charged fairly. I’m so grateful to have this clinic and Dr. Joe and wouldn’t go anywhere else, even though we no longer live close to the clinic. This is where you need to bring your fur babies; give them a try, you won’t regret it.

Acadia Drive Animal Clinic
816 Willow Park Dr SE, CalgaryOn recommendation of a fellow dog lover, I took our yellow Lab, Merlin, in for surgery. He needed the removal of a few skin tags that had lodged into his lower eyelid. The operation could not have gone better. After a couple of months, his healing is almost complete and the eyelid looks very close to normal with no complications. Thank you Dr. Mark Phillips for doing a very precise, quality job in a delicate area. His unmistakable experience was very appreciated. Getting in to have the surgery was prompt and easy and, with my clear description of the problem, I was not forced to pay for an unneccesary extra consult. The surgery was done in one visit, and the cost was quite reasonable. I did not feel that there was any hint of greed as I have experienced with other franchise-type vets, and which I always equate with profit-first, animal-second. I very strongly recommend Dr. Phillips and his team at the Acadia Drive Animal Clinic.

Killarney Cat Hospital
3315 26 Ave SW Bay #2, CalgaryGood vet, I like that they do have more insight into cats. Most clinics tend to be more dog-centric and I want my cats to have the best treatment. Only thing I do not like is they are pretty expensive. I'm willing to pay for the dedicated cat knowledge, but the difference between here and dogs clinic is a lot.

I’m an anxious pet owner, but these folks give me so much support around Tina’s diagnosis that I don’t feel alone or constantly worried. Canyon Meadows Veterinary Clinic
1057 Canyon Meadows Dr SW, CalgaryWe have been taking our older dog, Flash, to Dr. LeBoldus for a few months now. Recently, Flash took a turn for the worse and Dr. LeBoldus recommended emergency care, a higher level of support than she was able to offer. It wasn't about ringing the cash register, it was about thoughtful care, intuition and compassion for both us and Flash. We had to let Flash go this afternoon and Dr. LeBoldus phoned and offered condolences and kindness...from both her and her staff. If you are looking for an empathetic and astute vet, I would highly recommend Canyon Meadows Veterinary Clinic.

Cambrian Animal Hospital - Alberta
765 Northmount Dr NW, CalgaryI recommend Dr. Madsen, she's very caring and lovely in every way, she's the only veterinarian I see now!I first went to this vet clinic as I lived right across the street from them, but as time went on they have become my first choice for my kitty. They are very kind and loving to my animals, the wait time is pretty good and the vet techs seem to know their stuff. They listen to your requests as an owner and don't try to push you into giving your pets exams you feel are unnecessary.I have had some weird run ins with the older man there, for example he was giving my cat a shot, struggled a bit, didn't end up poking through her skin and the vaccine sprayed me and my cat in the face. I now avoid having him as my vet.

Montgomery Village Veterinary Clinic
4611 Bowness Rd NW #117, CalgaryI had been going to the same vet for 9 years when she moved out of the city. This put me in a position where I needed to find a new vet for my 16 year old fur baby with increasingly complex needs. I had heard good things about Montgomery Village vet and decided to give it a try. From the first phone call I got the sense of a calm and caring environment. As expected when I arrived, everyone from the reception, nurses, techs, were so kind. Dr. Jill was extremely kind and patient with my elderly grumpy little old man. We ended up only having to visit the clinic a few times since it became clear it was time for us to say goodbye to our much loved pet.Again the staff was so great at helping our family through this very difficult process. This was the only vet clinic Murphy ever went to that he didn't start to shake as soon as we walked in. That says a lot.

Our girl tolerates the other dogs, but is crazy about all of the staff that work at Paws.
