“Situated at the foot of Nanaimo Harbour. Lots of amenities in the surrounding area when waiting for the ferry to Gabriola Island. Since we can’t reserve tickets, it’s best to show up early and buy your tickets. If you get there too early, Port Place is a good place to spend some time. With plenty of free parking and lots of food places to visit. Dollarama is a favorite since I can pick up cheap snacks and drinks for the ferry ride. There seems to be a bus loop nearby which offers extra convenience for those that do not drive an automobile.”

“Folklife Village is basically the heart of our village life. It is where we buy the food that nourishes our family, it is where our pharmacy is located, as well as our branch of the Vancouver Island Library Which offers a lot to our small community. Gabriola’s Folklife Village was originally constructed as the Folklife Pavilion for Vancouver’s Expo 86 world fair that ran from May to October, 1986. So we enjoy a small piece of Canada's history each time we purchase our groceries, pick up our prescriptions or drop off our Library books.”
