“This is a wonderful community; management is responsive, and the area is always clean, organized, and peaceful. Rolando, who takes care of maintenance requests, is not only highly professional and efficient but also incredibly kind and respectful. He always completes every job with great care and attention to detail. It’s reassuring knowing he’s in-house and always ready to help. The surrounding nature is beautiful, and many units even offer lovely views. I highly recommend living here.”

“Living here was overall a pleasant and enjoyable experience. The management (Sabrina and Charlie) and maintenance teams were very responsive and did an excellent job of addressing any concerns. If you can tour and like what you see, I would recommend living here.

Pros:
- Staff
- Value (my unit had in-unit laundry, though not all units do)
- Parking availability for guests
- Proximity to Safeway and Waterdog Park

Cons:
- Distance from 101 and public transit
- Older establishment (nothing is too jank, so not an issue if you’re able to tour in person and are okay with it)
- Poor noise isolation. I was never bothered by my neighbors, but it will probably be an issue if you want to have frequent social gatherings.”

“I had a great experience living at Locale. Julie and Osvaldo truly go above and beyond to make the community feel like home. Maintenance requests get addressed swiftly. The complex is quiet, clean and very well maintained. The layout is optimal and the amenities (mailroom, gym, jacuzzi, rooftop) are top tier. Every couple of months (generally on holidays) there are community events (e.g. pizza night, taco night, sushi night) where you get to meet the neighbors.

Also love the location: a short walk from Caltrain (yet very well noise insulated) and downtown RWC (lots of restaurants).

Overall, 10/10 would recommend!”

“I am a former resident of The Villa at San Mateo. I truly enjoyed my experience while living at the Villa. Management is very friendly and accommodating. Qiana and Stephanie, hands down, have been very positive, responsive, and helpful. I can truly say they are a five-star team!
The monthly activity calendar holds fun and engaging things to do that encourage socializing with neighbors. I especially love the interior decor that gives the place an extra flair of extravagance; in addition, the exterior palm trees by the pool extend a feeling of being on vacation and make for enjoyable relaxation any time of day.”

“Spent a year living here as I worked in Palo Alto and just wanted to highlight how lovely the leasing and maintenance team were, as well as how nice the units are! Despite not being a modern construction, I think I've seen less bugs (two spiders in a year, and I kept my unit fairly humid) than on the 33rd floor of a new construction I lived in prior!

The sound proofing is fairly good, except for when my upstairs neighbor bought weights and was dropping them at odd hours. Linda went above and beyond to address this issue with the neighbor, even emailing Blueground on my behalf as the upstairs unit was a Blueground rental (Blueground has a couple rentals in the apartment, but because of how jacked up the prices are the renters are usually older working professionals and don't ever do something like this. This one time was an exception, and as it was during the summer months I'm pretty sure my upstairs neighbor was some intern).

Work orders are fixed promptly, and Linda is extremely fast at responding to any email requests. While some delivery drivers bring up the packages and some don't, you really can't complain. Linda will email you if you forget to pick up your packages and remind you about them, and all around is just so stellar. Rufino and Juan are also super great at dealing with requests.

You can also get a laundry machine installed in your unit for a very reasonable price, and once you get over the learning curve of using this thing it's really nice to have. Kitchen is nice and spacious, and the floor to ceiling windows are really nice for ventilation. The closet space is also great – don't think I'll find another unit with so much space for all my clothes!

The apartment is also fairly close to a Whole Foods (~10 min walk, 3 min drive) and a Trader Joe's (~5 min walk), and the parking situation is also nice. It's a nice gated (free!) garage that you use a remote control to open and close, and the parking spots are nice and spacious.

I will say that the garbage truck does come around 6:30AM regularly, and it may rattle your windows / beep outside for a bit, so it's probably good to invest in a sound machine and some earplugs or wake up early if you're a light sleeper. Overall, the property is really nicely maintained and the other residents are all super sweet, and once again Linda, Rufino, and Juan are truly amazing!

P.S. Also not to discredit other people but I find it really doubtful that Linda et al have not been responding to people's emails. Also, I did see one review about AI assistants and I'm pretty sure they don't have that anymore – all calls go directly to the leasing office without EliseAI or some other AI bot.”

“I took my dog here while waiting for my wife to finish a medical appointment at Stanford. Excellent dog park. Well maintained and very clean. Unfortunately while there a woman with two dogs purposely opened both the gates to park on purpose and my dog escaped and ran off into a very congested traffic area. I could not find her and called 911. After looking for her for four hours, we had to go home thinking our dog would be dead or severely injured. There were many good people in Menlo Park who helped us find our dog. Luckily almost 24 hours later a woman rescued our dog and we got her back relatively safe and sound.

If you see an Asian woman with a pug and Golden retriever, get your dog out of the park immediately. Your pet will not be safe in the presence of this woman. She should be arrested and prosecuted. What she did was not an accident.”

“I’ve lived in many apartment buildings over the course of my life, and this is by far the best place! My partner and I have been happily living here for just over two years. It’s a 10 minute walk to downtown Redwood City — restaurants, movie theater, and the CalTrain station. It would be impossible to talk about how great it is to live at Brewster Place without mentioning Gwen and Sterling, the couple that runs our building. They are exceptionally responsive, always addressing issues promptly and with kindness. I genuinely can’t imagine living here without them!! For the duration of my time here, our building has always felt clean, safe, and cozy. From talking with other friends who live in apartments on the Peninsula, we know how lucky we are! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!”

“I’ve been living at Park Place at San Mateo Apartments and couldn’t be happier with my experience! The community is clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located near shops, restaurants, and public transportation. The management team is responsive and professional — always willing to help and quick to resolve any issues.
This is a great place to live — quiet, safe, and comfortable. Highly recommend it!”

“I lived in 777 Hamilton between May - August 2024 in a 1b1b in the third floor of building G.

Pros:
- Management is very responsive and attentive to requests. All maintenance issues I had were promptly solved.
- Apartments are modern and nicely kept. I got a furnished apartment and everything in it was top notch. The fact windows are big also brings in a lot of sunlight, which is great.
- Quiet neighborhood. In general, the neighborhood is very calm and safe. There usually is a police car parked in the corner of the street, which is nice to have around. Despite the fact we have a fire station two blocks away from the property, I never heard sirens or any sort of noise.
- Very close to Bay Trail. I used to bike out of the property into Bay Trail every weekend and it was great!

Cons
- Management is remote. If you have a problem that needs to be solved immediately, you’re gonna be stressed.
- Despite the fact the neighborhood is quiet, Meta (which is across the street) brings in garbage trucks at 3am daily. If you’re sleeping with the windows open, this will wake you up. (On the other hand, if you like AC, windows are great at isolating noise from the outside).
- The neighborhood is very walkable, but there is nothing there other than houses. The grocery stores nearby are small and expensive. Most often, if you’re meeting people or buying something, you’re gonna be going to Palo Alto. If you don’t have a car, this can be a painful 40min commute in public transportation.”

“We’ve been here about six months and we’ve been really happy with the property. Helen is by far the best building manager either of us have ever had (I mean honestly, even in other “luxury” apartments have you ever seen another manager who is always in the office during open hours? She’s so easy to reach!), and the other staff are wonderful too. We’ve been impressed with how on top of regular maintenance they are—it’s clean, landscaped, and the few issues have always been dealt with proactively and quickly.”

“Great location! Conveniently located near Caltrain station, groceries and some awesome restaurants in the downtown area. Apartment plans are convenient with all latest amenities. The community is well maintained as well.Be mindful that their standard move out charges for cleaning, painting add up to more than the deposit so you’ll end paying additional fees after move out.”

“Rosio was so sweet, helpful, and patient. It seems that the new ownership is going to be a great improvement for the old buildings. The inside of the apartments were well maintained and spacious.”

“I have become more and more pleased with my decision to move here. This is by far the quietest building I have ever lived in! Now that the construction is coming to a close, the upgrades were worth it. The fact that the building is downtown makes a huge difference to me, as does the proximity to the Caltrain. I look forward to many more years here in the building and the community.”

“I am extremely pleased with the customer relationship manager, Rajesh, at Township. Rajesh is very responsive and has been incredibly helpful with any queries or concerns I’ve had. His dedication to ensuring tenant satisfaction truly makes living here a pleasant experience.”

“After living at Radius Apartments for three years, I reached a point where staying was no longer a given. I had outgrown my unit and was actively exploring other options, open to leaving if the right opportunity came along. However, when that opportunity surfaced at a sister Essex community, the way the Radius team handled the situation played a major role in my decision to remain an Essex resident.

From the beginning, Angie Schmidt made the process feel approachable rather than bureaucratic. I had a lot of questions about transferring between Essex properties, and she took the time to answer every one patiently and thoroughly, without ever making me feel like I was asking too much. That alone set a tone I genuinely appreciated.

As my situation became more nuanced, Lucinda Pham stepped in and made a real difference. She worked through my specific circumstances, advocated on my behalf, and moved quickly to make things happen. Her knowledge and responsiveness turned what could have been a stressful, drawn-out process into something that felt thoughtful and well-managed. When the right unit became available, the team acted fast, and they even honored a new-resident special, which made me feel valued as a long-term resident rather than taken for granted.

What ultimately gave me confidence that staying with Essex was the right call — not just in the moment, but long-term — was the consistency I’d already experienced with maintenance. Jonathan Smith and Francisco Gomez have been reliable, responsive, and thorough over time. Maintenance requests are handled quickly and, more importantly, fixed correctly. They follow through on what they say they’ll do, and that reliability isn’t limited to one-off interactions. Even after transferring into my new unit, they immediately addressed items I had raised, reinforcing that conversations here actually lead to action.

A property is only as good as the people who run it, and this group sets a standard for professional excellence that other communities should strive for.”
