“An excellent source for graphic novels for school age kids, especially if you want more diversity than the typical marvel or DC approach. When I found out my 1st grader was trans, this store helped me find age appropriate books that they could see themselves in. And they in turn learned stories about brown kids, black kids, and immigrants from other graphic novels there that I would never have known existed. Staff are excellent and know their stock.”
“Very unique shop :) They have a great selection of used and new books. I especially like the poetry section, there are lots of rare/small press publications. It's also cool to pop in for live music.”
“Awesome shop, great selection, everything on the shelves was in fantastic condition. I filled some holes in my collection, and Jude was extremely helpful and got all my items shipped home promptly and for a super fair shipping price. When I received them, they were packed with unbelievable care. Cannot recommend enough.”
“Unbelievable little bookstore. Everyone who works there is an avid reader and a good listener. And if they don't have a title, they get it for you in a day or two. You can't go wrong here!”
“Lovely place. It is linked to Peet's entrance, so your can get your book and go read it with a nice cupa. Staff does a great job putting together theamed book displays. And all the little extras like journals, stuffed toys, greeting cards are nice.”
“I came in looking for a book on a subject that they didn't have, but the gentleman I spoke with offered up some alternatives and shared his knowledge on a few subjects related to my inquiry. Overall great experience”
“Good selection of Russian books with a progressive focus. I previously had them ship a book on LGBT Russian history and just put in a new order for Anna Akhmatova and a book on Russian emigration. Pretty quick shipping and I prefer them to my local (Chicagoland) bookstore.”

“I wish I could buy this entire store ; its design and display achieves a sublime balance between high art and warmth ; your eye flits amongst books and posters and makes unexpected connections ; this does result in nice impulsive buying; I will visit more often as I am registered to take a modern architecture class at Stanford. Vernon and staff are well informed, dispatching their knowledge with ease and warmth.”
“We just received our 5th custom bookshelf from Books & Bookshelves and couldn’t be happier. The other 4 have lasted years, thru several moves. The quality and price can’t be beat!”
“Beautiful bookstore in the heart of SF mission st. Parking is a hard but great ambience and fantastic indoor music concerts. Def a great place to spend an evening”

“I felt very safe as a trans person here staff were very kind and although they didn't have what I was looking for I was able to find other pieces that more politicalyneutral bookplaces wouldn't stock 10/10 atmosphere 10/10 staff”
“amazingly curated queer bookstore. great sections on Indigineity, lgbti+ fiction and nonfic, poetry, greeting cards etc. many fun staff picks and very kind workers! 10/10”
“What a cute gift store! That was my go-to anytime I needed to buy a gift card or a SF-related gift. The SF theme objects are not those poor quality ones that you find at the typical touristy gift shop, they made with quality I good taste. If you’re looking for a SF souvenir, that’s to place to go to! (Or the one on haight street)”
“A gem of a bookstore, featuring basically any cookbook or book about food you could imagine. The folks who work there are extremely helpful, and the environment is excellent.”
“Bookshop West Portal should be on everyone's best book store list! It's my personal favorite - it feels like a warm and inviting community space, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they know their books. I love going there. Their stock is always good, and they can order anything that might be missing quickly. They also regularly sponsor author readings, and book clubs. For example, Irish author Ethel Rohan curates an Irish book club, recommending books to read and authors to follow. It's such a wonderful neighborhood - City - amenity.”
“Adobe Books is a great community gathering place that features brilliant artists and musicians. In an era where the commons are dying, it brings me a lot of satisfaction to know i can stop by adobe books any day and be around enriching conversation, and great, affordable books.”
“Excellent selection, beautiful layout and a focus on local authors and artists. Some incredible bay area history books/coffee-table books, and charming greeting cards made by local artists. A+++ service; love this place!”
“First time at a standalone Moleskine store! They had every size, colour and type of Moleskine books you could want. And also all other product offerings as well like bags, cases and even customizable accessories and service to do in-house print of monogram/words on your purchased book. They have all the partnership/collab books as well like Le Petite Prince, Star Wars , etc. Prices are at regular levels here, no sales were spotted during my late December visit. They did have some beautiful gift sets here that you can't find any where else. Which are lovely gift ideas for stationery/paper lovers in your life! There were 2 staff members present during my visit, and one of them very quickly came to greet my friends and I as soon as we entered.”
“The first time I visited this store was twenty years ago. I never thought that this independent bookstore would still be able to survive in 2024. For endangered creatures, I am happy to support it with US dollars.”
“I love supporting our San Anselmo library! I was able to buy books for everyone in my family for a very affordable price. It is fun to search the shelves looking for unique finds. The volunteers are very kind.”
“Kamisha (sp? :) was very knowledgeable about the inventory & nice to talk to. They have a large selection, so having a helpful guide who knows where to find what you ask for without having to look it up is great.
Some places the weedrista ? just stare at the packages along with you looking to see what has CBG in it. Kamisha knew her stuff & offered helpful alternatives as well.
Good shop, good staff.”

“I had a great beginner class here. The instructor was friendly and very informative. The building is nice with interesting equipment. I look forward to taking more classes”
“Great place to buy books including a good sum of products you don't find in any other book store in the US normally. Japanese books, magazines and manga untranslated for one thing.”
“I got the iced matcha latte with oat milk and vanilla sweetner. It was really good quality and one of the best matchas i’ve had so far in SF! Drink was a rich green color, so that was a tell tale sign it was good quality matcha.-1 star because the only alternative milk they have is oat milk. I would love if they had almond or soy too.”
“Glad to have such a great book shop in the neighborhood.
They take requests, so if you want to shop local and they don’t have what you’re looking for in stock, they’ll make it happen!”
“It was great to see items from the shows in the store and own a memory. We were able to find some unique gifts for friends and families. The staff is knowledgeable, patient and efficient.”
“every time I go, I find something it's so easy to lose track of time in there ; take some time out of your busy schedule and stop by. your gonna like it. GOD BLESS to all my brothers and sisters”
“The owner is very helpful as well as her staff. Many encouraging books representing all walks of life. Our school book club gets it's books from here. Love that it's local.”
“I went here a while back to buy some very affordable guitars when I was teaching myself how to play the guitar. I bought a nice electric guitar (Stratocaster style--I don't recall the brand) and a Rosa acoustic guitar. I also purchased a tambourine and a recorder. Even though they were not expensive, the employee (I think his name was Abraham) still added on an additional discount! What a deal! So, if you need to purchase an affordable guitar, which are displayed in the front window, this is just the place for you.”
“We are very fortunate to have Corner Books inside the Tiburon library. There’s no other place like it—they have a fantastic selection of books at the lowest prices possible and a friendly smart team that can help people find exactly the right books to read or give as gifts.”
