“You can't beat a hardware store that makes you feel cared about. Scarborough has retained that small-town friendliness. Great selection of widely varied goods. Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful without being pushy or overwhelming. Too bad they don't stay open later, but in keeping with old fashioned standards, their staff can keep normal hours and go home to enjoy their families!”
“Such a wonderful business - so lucky to have them in the valley! They just dropped off a load of lumber to my house and I have a really awful driveway and the guy (wish I got his name) navigated it so well! He got a little stuck but worked so so hard to get the truck out never took a break. The hardest worker I’ve ever met! I know how stressful situations like that can be and his attitude was so positive and he was great to work with! Thank you! And we will of course be back!”

“Gorgeous selection of plants indoor, outdoor, veggie starts, herbs, etc. Prices were fair and everything was easy to find.
Staff pretty much ignored us, which is fine because I didn't need help finding anything, but one employee was watching me struggle to maneuver my cart around an enormous garden hose that was in the middle of the store posing a tripping hazard. She didn't try to move it or help at all. So not the greatest staff in the world, but the plants! Tons of varieties of sages and California Natives. Will definitely be back.”

“I have lived in Santa Cruz County for almost 40 years and I visited this store for the first time today needing 4 metric bolts. It instantly reminded me of many hardware stores I went to a kid growing up with. The nice lady at the counter helped me find their metric bolts and despite the selection being limited, I got exactly what I needed. I even told her checking out that I wasnt sure if they were going to work and I was right down the street, so she told me not to pay and bring them back if they dont work, or just drop the money off later if they do.
They worked so I came back, paid for bolts and bought some pants [I can never find 36x34's in the colors I want but they had them] to support this rad old school business.”
“The good people at the Ace Hardware on Soquel Avenue are the best! I had a BBQ delivered and found it wasn’t working properly (or so I thought!). Without hesitation they sent someone to check it out and lo and behold, he got it started. I was unaware of a little “trick” to getting it started (see me blushing). Josh was so sweet and wouldn’t take a cash tip for his trouble no matter how much I tried to give it to him. I highly recommend this store and will definitely do business with them in the future. We sourced all the materials for our backyard and front yard project from Central Home Supply, and they were outstanding. Their pricing was fantastic—they matched and even beat quotes from shops over the hill. The real value, however, was in their service. Being local, they offered just-in-time delivery, which saved us a ton of space on-site. When I made a mistake and misordered several crates of wrong AB blocks, they were incredibly helpful and fixed the issue without any problems. A huge thank you to Reed, Manny, and Oscar for being so accommodative and ensuring our project stayed on schedule. I definitely recommend them!”

“I was coordinating the bands for the Towne clock stage for the 50th anniversary of LGBTQ pride in Santa Cruz and due to cables running out into the street and across the sidewalk. I realize we need to protect the cables but mostly we need to make sure that people in wheelchairs can get by. These were perfect for the job.
I sent an email to the team and Tony got back to me pretty quickly thereafter. He actually ordered these new because they didn't have any in stock which I thought was very thoughtful because they could've just said sorry can't help.

“I stopped by the Ace Hardware in Felton and it’s one of the nicest hardware stores I’ve been to. The whole place is brand new, super clean, and really well organized.
The coolest part is they have an actual ice cream counter inside. You can grab a cone or a cup, or just pick up a container to take home, which is something you definitely don’t expect in a hardware store.
They’ve got a great selection of stuff, a really nice garden center, and it wasn’t crowded at all when I went. The staff were also really friendly and easy to talk to.
Overall just a really solid store. I’d definitely go back, even just for the ice cream.”

“I think Home Depot has a lot of of really good items for a great price. The online store is where to go to find anything you found somewhere else but usually at a lower price. I saw beautiful custom tile for my showers online in a boutique store from New York City. To my surprise the exact same tile I found on line at Home Depot for 15% less. I received it via home delivery within a week.”
“Who can complain? Home Depot has what you probably need. However, this Home Depot does stand out for exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. The downside is that it is a smaller one and is often out of things you came for, so you will often find yourself driving to the Watsonville store.”
