“This is a review of the personal trainer named Nathan at 24 Hour Fitness, El Cerrito. Many have written reviews of the gym--which is adequate and reasonably priced. But I had the good fortune of being referred to Nathan. He is friendly, supportive, knowledgeable, interested in seeing my skills develop, and very important to me, he shows no signs of being "ageist" and even though I am of the boomer generation, he has confidence in my ability to continue to develop my strengths. I do see increases in my strength and mobility since we started working together, just a couple of months ago, 30 mins/week. I highly recommend him, with no reservations.”

“This is a long overdue review! I'm extremely grateful to Tribe for helping me stay healthy and stronger since I joined 2 years ago. I was looking for ways to stay active while working from home and living with autoimmune disease. Having chronic health issues made me prioritize stress management and movement, but also be conscious of my body and find the balance between challenging myself and rest when needed. I love the friendly vibe of the gym (not the typical I have seen in other places) and that their schedule offers a wide variety of options, including strength and yoga classes, coaching, and seasonal challenges.
I was looking for a gym close to my home and ended up finding a great and fun community! If you're looking for a new way to stay active and healthy in San Francisco, you should try their 6-week challenge at Tribe!”

- Music selection - FIRE!

- Dimming the lights at cool down/stretching - NOVEL, why don't more people do this?!?!?!
They also have the new treads here which I really love. I'll be back.
One sucky thing, even though I have a unlimited membership, I still had to pay $10 to go to class. I'm sure that's a corporate thing, so I didn't ding them for this.”

“Simply put, Orangetheory Fitness Alameda is a fantastic place to work out. The energy is always high, the classes are challenging but manageable, and the community vibe makes it fun to show up and put in the work. Every coach brings something unique to the table, and I genuinely look forward to each session.
Huge shoutout to Coach Anthony - he took the time to tailor exercises for me when I was recovering from an injury and always keeps a close eye on form to make sure l'm pushing safely (and effectively - I can tell he cares about me being careful but also wants me to see results). Coach Sarah is another favorite - she has such a kind, encouraging attitude that keeps me motivated, and she's just as diligent about correcting form and keeping us aligned. Both have made me feel supported in every class.
And of course, I can't forget Coach Mikey! His energy is unmatched - he's hilarious, high-energy, and makes the time fly by (which is hilarious to say about workout classes as intense as OrangeTheory-LOL) Whether you're new to fitness or a seasoned athlete, the coaching team here makes every class feel personal and worthwhile.
The front desk team is also always welcoming, friendly, and on top of things, which makes the whole experience seamless.
Last comments about the workouts - I love that they offer flexibility based on how you're feeling that day
- the wide range of free weights (5 los to 50 los) means you can scale up or down as needed.

“I joined Orangetheory Berkeley in Oct 2022 and have been a regular since. As I’m older, I wasn’t sure initially if this would be a good fit. I discovered all ages are welcome! I like the inclusive, friendly, helpful vibe from the manager Van, to the front desk staff, to the coaches. The coaches also invite us to let them know anytime if we need adjustments to any part of the workout. We are invited to both challenge and pace ourselves. While all the coaches I’ve experienced are good, my current favorite classes are coached by Jazon and Noah.”
“First time training here and it was the perfect hour HIIT type class. Alex, the owner, was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and encouraging throughout the class. The exercises were challenging, but accessible to all levels. The music was fire. Perfect sized facility for group classes and clean/organized space.
Highly recommend working out here, we will definitely be coming back when we are in Oakland! Thank you, Alex!!”

“I’m writing this review early into my 6-week Barbell Basics package—just two 6:30 AM classes in so far—but I already feel like I’ve found something meaningful.
The classes are well-structured and strike a great balance: there’s a clear group focus with supportive energy, but also room for individual attention and pacing. It’s challenging, but not intimidating—enough to push you without making you want to flee. After each session, I feel physically good, and I’ve noticed the days I attend class tend to be better days at work. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
I’ve already met a few people I really like and hope to connect with more over the coming weeks. The 6-week package itself is a smart model—I much prefer it over a “free trial week.” In my opinion, paying helps you show up with purpose and commitment.
And yes, I’ve already had that post-workout cooldown high where I think: Maybe I could train for a weightlifting competition someday? A delightful delusion, but honestly—it’s fun to daydream when your body feels strong.
I’m not yet sure if I’ll be able to continue after the 6 weeks—it’s definitely a premium gym, and with that comes a bit of a financial stretch for someone like me, who’s here thanks to a fitness stipend from my employer. I may have to return to my free apartment workouts once the 6 weeks wrap up. (Perhaps I should start a GoFundMe—haha!) But I LOVE having access to the full range of equipment at The Yard, and the space itself is motivating in a way that’s impossible for me to replicate at home.
In short: If you’re considering trying The Yard, the 6-week package has been a great way (imho) to test the waters with intention. I’ve had a great start, and I’m glad I signed up. Looking forward to more great workouts!”

“I’ve been going to flagship for a few weeks now after a brief hiatus from exercising. The workouts are challenging (and quite gruelling at times) but I’m enjoying them and settling nicely into the routines. Facilities and equipment are great and the coaches are fantastic - I really like their attention to form when doing lifts as well as targeted dynamic stretching before the workout starts.
I’d love for some time to be baked in for stretching/cool down out at the end of classes as I usually have to run on the hour.
Generally, it’s a great gym with great people (and doggos) and would recommend it to anyone!!”
