“This store has the best selection of Judaica and the owners are so helpful. It is such a pleasure to have a brick and mortar store where I can compare items. And around holiday times there is no better place to shop.”

“An excellent source for graphic novels for school age kids, especially if you want more diversity than the typical marvel or DC approach. When I found out my 1st grader was trans, this store helped me find age appropriate books that they could see themselves in. And they in turn learned stories about brown kids, black kids, and immigrants from other graphic novels there that I would never have known existed. Staff are excellent and know their stock.”

“Very reasonable pricing of books, wonderfully wide range of genres and topics, and fantastic staff picks. The owner has a very calming presence, and the shop's atmosphere is very relaxing. If I could give five stars to the sleepy cat herself, I would. Lyla is such a cutie. This is now my go to book shop.”

“My brother and I were driving by Sultana Bookstore last weekend when he had me stop to take a look inside. My brother lives less than half a mile away and insisted we stop because the owners were SO kind and had a wide range of books and modest clothing. We pulled up around closing time and didn't want to spend too much time, but ended up staying around 40 mins chatting with owner, Brother Shoukat. What a kind and wonderful human being he is, mA. We bought a lovely tunic for my brother, and an oud burner along with some of the best Bukhoor I've ever smelled. I raved about this store and Br. Shoukat's kindness all week and my mom insisted she join us the next time we go. Next time was yesterday as we were too excited to visit again Br. Shoukat was just as warm and friendly with our mom and we shopped and chatted for 1.5 hours! He even made me a cup of joshanda herbal tea as he noticed that I was sniffling from allergies I'm so happy to have found this gem of a store and family. We plan to come back again soon and have been telling our family and friends to come and support this small business. The prices are extremely reasonable and he let us know most of their prices for goods have remained the same the last 10 years! I pray that God continues to put barakah into this beautiful business and showers his blessings on the owners We will be back soon, iA!”

“A rare treasure of a bookstore, with a history of community service and a wealth of African American authors. It's the go-to bookstore for knowledge of authors you want to read and warmth of community. I love patronizing this place!”

“Just learned that the bookstore closed permanently due to COVID-19. UPB was one of my favorite bookstores in Berkeley because of its unique focus on scholarly and academic books. Book stores are a tough business to run these days, but they are institutions that I hope will stand the test of time, especially the ones like UPB which are so unique. Its closure marks yet another event that makes the university town less interesting. :(”

“How can I put this...? This store is truly one of the finest establishments I have had the pleasure of visiting in the Pacific East mall. The assortment of items available is simply exquisite, encompassing a wide range of offerings such as stationery, plushes, CDs, albums, posters, and more. The level of service provided is nothing short of impeccable, with the workers exhibiting remarkable sweetness and kindness. This store holds a lot of value to me. I wholeheartedly recommend paying a visit to this establishment whenever you find yourself at the Pacific East mall.”

“Legendary store. Have always enjoyed every visit here. I always find good finds each visit from all the many options to choose from here. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I love the location as it is near a restaurant I adore, Max's Opera Cafe. Peet's shares the building and entrance so that is a nice perk. Buy a book, get a beverage, sit and enjoy both. There is a parking garage with Valet service in the building. Love the many live talks with authors.”

“You can't miss the large, blue building along Shattuck! We came by to explore the different book options and were entertained by the cute kids' section as well as the coloring book/drawing section. They definitely do have some books from each genre, but they seem to have a lot more options in the fiction section. They have this cool prison project thing going on where if you buy a book from the selected table, they'll send it to a prison inmate.”

“First time at a standalone Moleskine store! They had every size, colour and type of Moleskine books you could want. And also all other product offerings as well like bags, cases and even customizable accessories and service to do in-house print of monogram/words on your purchased book. They have all the partnership/collab books as well like Le Petite Prince, Star Wars , etc. Prices are at regular levels here, no sales were spotted during my late December visit. They did have some beautiful gift sets here that you can't find any where else. Which are lovely gift ideas for stationery/paper lovers in your life! There were 2 staff members present during my visit, and one of them very quickly came to greet my friends and I as soon as we entered.”

“My husband and I have been science fiction readers since we were kids looking for stories to read. We've been happy customers of this shop since we discovered it, a very long time ago.Now we're thinkers, editors and writers, but those books and more are still there in this magical shop, waiting to jump out at more curious young readers like we used to be. In fact, there's a rumor that Santa sends his elves there every September to scout for new stories. Just sayin'...”

“A great bookshop with excellent choice of books. It has all those interesting books from the past, but not many that you get swamped. Run by Volunteers of the Library. Books cost.under $10, some as low can as $3, even for a volume. The success of a bookstore is in the choice of the books.”

“Every once and a blue moon I'll come in here and be reminded of the power of good books and music. The excitement of finding exactly what I need to read and or listen to. This place is pure magic and I'm so grateful that it's here and we get to enjoy it time and time again. A reminder that great things can be found on the cheap. Books that can change our lives or at the very least, our thinking, are indeed accessible.”

“I spent so long in this store that I wanted to buy everything. It's like a toy store for adults with books, stationeries, souvenirs, and everything in between. They are colourful and quirky (some). They remind us there are beautiful things called art out there that are worth our longing.”

“I love bookstores especially independent ones that sell used books. Asked the front desk for assistance and she was quick to help. Offered to order a book that they didn't have. Bought 3 books, 1 new/2 used total under $40. Great bargain! Would def come back. Need to check out the Oakland location.”
