“What a great little market! It is well-stocked, sometimes better than local Andronico's! New owners are very friendly and helpful. Generous hours too. We feel so lucky to live near this excellent market and also love Kensington's Fine Foods in the same building.”

“This market has the best produce, and the best meat department in the whole Bay Area. The service is excellent and the product selection is great! I especially now because they carry liquor! And they have a very good selection of medicine!”

“What more can you say about Trader Joe's. Friendly people, good prices, good products, and easy to get in and out. I wish they wouldn't get rid of some of my favorite items, though!”

“One of the coolest grocery stores I've ever been to! There is truly something for everyone here from the vast selection of colorful produce to artisan bread to locally prepared foods. While some items are a bit pricey, you can definitely shop here on a budget if you know what to pick. Additionally, the store is both vegan/vegetarian friendly and I think has a great policy on waste. Many items like cashews are kept in bulk to reduce on plastic. If you like fresh food or simply a solid unique grocery store, the Berkeley Bowl is the way to go!”

“We just moved to the area and checked out this farmers market today for the first time. It’s a wonderful little market! A variety of fruits and vegetables from local farms as well as vendors selling prepared food (many delicious Filipino dishes) popcorn, ice cream, pita chips and hummus (phenomenal, btw), and some non food things such as jewelry and soaps. We took home many veggies fruit, and the pita and 2 kinds of hummus. We will be back!”

“This is a pretty amazing grocery store if you're looking for produce. It's basically a farmer's market indoors. Best mushroom selection I've seen anywhere. Prices are high, but you get what you pay for. Convenient parking in a very congested little parking lot.”

“As soon as we saw Village Market on board with Instacart we ordered a pie that we've been searching for over the last three years. My spouse and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and our favorite dessert is Strawberry Rhubarb pie. They delivered an artisan made pie at such a very reasonable price, and we are both over the moon about the quality and delicious, authentic homestyle taste! We really appreciate being able to get grocery delivery from the Village Market, and will be repeat customers through Instacart from here on out!”

“Come here as an alternative to Berkeley Bowl, produce section and deli are some of my favorites here. Which are better priced than Safeway on the street. Most other items are marked up too high for me. But $7.99 for a simply yet filling sandwich? Come here for the produce but hit up the deli”

“This TJs suffers from the same plight as most of of the grocery stores in the city, that being that there are more people than stores. You can count on it to be out of at least one thing you are looking for every time you visit, normally something shelf-stable. This last time it was white vinegar. The time before that it was peanut butter AND jelly.”

“We go to Nick's 2-3 month to pick up basic household items or for our It's It fix. When we are in the mood to bake, Nick's has a small but impressive baking section including Guittard baking chocolate and various flour options. For celebrations or just making it through the week, there's a good selection of wine and spirits. I needed a cauliflower for a soup but they ran out and the very next time Charlie saw me, he told me they had a recent delivery. Charlie and Louie are such nice and helpful guys.”

“Mandela is a small and quaint, grocery cooperative. They had a lot of fresh fruit. I suggest you check the discount bins. I was able to get some oyster mushrooms at a great price and tomatoes. The stuff is very friendly and extremely helpful. It's small yet I was found everything I needed.”

“This is a great local grocery store with better produce than Safeway and much more convenient. The staff is friendly and helpful and they don't need multiple security guards and gates at the exit. They also carry great local products that are better than national brands. This is my go to for day-to-day groceries.”

“I had a lunch with my kid on Friday, the guy behind the register was amazing, great attitude and super service however, the chicken came uncooked, again the cashier took it back to finish cooking it. How do you hire a cheff that does not know when the meet is or is not cooked?”

“I love Grocery Outlet. This place is so drastically less expensive than everywhere else. It encourages you to try new things upshelf. Grocery Outlet, Bargain Market. I lived in Mexico for a bit. This is where I went to shop when getting my 6month stamp.”

“Very cute neighborhood market that offers just as much as a big name stores. Very clean and well kept. The deli and meat counter have a large variety of options. Great stop for a morning coffee as well. Staff have all been extremely friendly and welcoming as I am new to the neighborhood. So glad I found this place and it's on my way home from work so it's convenient on top of everything else.”

“Lots of good prices here. Items are hit and miss, sometimes they have Schar brand gluten free bread, sometimes they don't. Eggs are 5 dozen for only $8.99, which is a good deal. Staff is pretty cool and friendly.”

“They have nearly everything you need in this small store and the checkout line rarely has more than one person in front of you. I laugh at the people traipsing up to Trader Joe's to wait in long lines for produce that is vastly inferior to that in this store.I've seen some comments on the meat section and there is some validity. Check the pack dates, which are accurate, and if it is within the last 2 days your selection will be A+. I go here all the time for fish and chicken.”

“Zaa'tar restaurant inside is a hidden gem. I've had their very delicious and satisfying falafel wrap a few times. Come here for yummy yet nutritious food with a big serving size sold for an affordable price.”

“I get the best deals at Grocery Outlet and often find items that I buy at Whole Foods at 1/2 the price or less. Supplements, vegan items, protein powders, great deals on these staples. I typically shopped at the LA locations but after moving back to the bay started frequenting this one as well.”

“Really close to Cal campus! Every student should go there and buy stuff as it is so much less expensive than the typical grocery store. Like about 30% less on the average bill.”

“I love Trader Joe's but I came in a 6pm to this location got the first time aaaaand my goodness... the line is insane. It wraps around the aisle over from the registers... I love you but I'm leaving:)”

“This shop means I do not have to go to Safeway or any corporate chain stores. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I go often to get my kombucha refill with new flavors and same for the yogurt. Both are delicious. If I were more of a cook, I would make even better use of their great selection of pantry items. But I do get most of my non-food stuff there. Things like body wash, hand soap, dish soap, tooth paste tabs, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent. And it is also in a great neighborhood.”

“Ugh this Dos Primos on sourdough was so friggin GOOD and YUM and perfect mouth chaos. It did what a SFian wants, and interrupts my normal work day brain for a crash of gratitude for the little things in life that go YUM!”

“Downtown Grocery on Eddy St. (between Jones and Taylor St). is my #1 choice of grocery stores in my area. I shop there just about every day. They have everything you need. But what I like the most and is a game changer for me is and overall niceness. “I stopped by Rocky's Market after brunch w/ Diane today, and if possible, I love it even more than before! I started to park across the street, then noticed a spot had opened up directly in front so I drove across the street and pulled into it. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly man. I went directly back to the cold case, where I took two Caesar salads because I remember them being excellent, and a risotto that looked interesting, mushroom and sweet pea. Both were from Two Local Girls. I was looking for some local chocolate to bring as a hostess gift to a friend who's having Nina and me over for dinner tonight and as I looked, the nice man came over to check whether I needed help. When I told him what I was looking for he led me over to the chocolates, where I picked out two bars that were beautifully wrapped and looked special because of the wrapping. When I went to the checkout stand we introduced ourselves. His name is Brady and his son was there, keeping him company. I commented that I had helped my dad at his shoe store when I was a kid. Then, after Brady rang me up, I couldn't find my credit card. I knew I had used it at Paulista and thought maybe I had left it there. Brady's response was to give me the receipt and tell me to come back later and pay. He said I didn't need to come back today, that he trusted me. I was just overwhelmed w/ gratitude and pleasure! I went out to my car, and then, before driving back to Paulista, I double checked my wallet for the credit card because my habit of putting it away is so strong. I looked behind the card next to where it belongs to see if I had inadvertently put my Visa behind it and, sure enough, that's where it was. I returned to the store w/ the credit card and paid for my purchases. When I started to write this update I saw that Brady is one of the market's co-owners. What an incredibly nice man, who sets the tone for the store. If this store were in my neighborhood I would be there every week! Addendum: Our hostess insisted on sharing one of the chocolate bars, sea salt and almond chocolate, and it was delicious!”

“This store is always crowded and is a victim of it. They don't restock items soon enough. Also, unlike other locations, it is not vegetarian friendly. I spoke to the store manager and he said that they don't stock certain vegetarian frozen food items because they don't sell enough.”

“Rincon Latino is a market I stopped by for ingredients when doing some of my cooking adventures when I lived in Albany. The store was easy to spot from the street and the parking lot was easy to maneuver in to and out of. Offerings spread a variety of grocery items and included produce and meat. When asking for a cut of meat from the butcher/meat case area, I was happy I had looked up in advance the terminology in Spanish for the cut of meat I was looking for as it turned out to be helpful for indicating what cut I wanted. Produce was fresh and worked perfect in the dishes I made. The interior of the store was well laid out with different sections clearly shelved without spreading into another section. Produce sections were located both outside of the entrance and inside the store. Payment was straightforward. All of the workers we interacted with were friendly and professional.”
