“The docs and staff at Vet Vision were exceptionally good with my sometimes anxious dog. The doctors are skilled and personable and are supported by state of the art equipment. This comes at a premium cost, of course. But it’s worrisome when a loved pet develops eye problems. Vet Vision can reliably make it better.”

“Dr. Brian Van Horn was great. We just had to put our elderly dog down. He was very nice. Dr. Van Horn explained everything and gave us time to allow to say good bye. “I love the pet clinics that are held at this location. The dogs are very well maintained and the staff is extremely helpful. They do all they can to help the animals and give out free items. I have never been inside the location building but I have attended many times outside in the parking lot area for community pet clinics.”

“I’ve been taking my dog to Dr Adam for a couple of years now, he’s by far my favorite vet and I’ve tried several. I also LOVE Andrew at the front office. Their appointments are set up in 15 min increments I believe so you pay for the times used, it’s amazing (I used to pay the same amount for an average appt of 7 min w/o much info at all). I typically spend 30 min and Dr Adam is a wealth of knowledge so I love picking his brain. He shares about home cooking/bone broth, massage techniques, supplements, home teeth cleaning etc. My dog Lily loves him bc at the same time as he teaches me something new he massages her. He’s so lovely and so extremely helpful with minimal interventions. He never pushes unnecessary procedures which I love. He usually has very basic, straightforward solutions, many which haven’t costed me a dime. He’s a partner in health and one of the few good ones left. Bless his heart.”

“Been happily coming here for years! On my first visit, Dr. Helmer quickly diagnosed my cat’s health issue that had puzzled other vets. She also noticed some dental issues that other vets never did. My cat clearly felt better after receiving proper care. I’m grateful for her and the wonderful staff here.”

“Balboa Pet Hospital is great. They were able to schedule my dog the same day after she had an injury to her tongue. They gave her a thorough exam and medications to help her pain. This vet is very reasonably priced for SF! Will be bringing her back here.”

“⸻

It’s amazing to think about how long we’ve been coming to Blue Cross Pet Hospital. I first heard about them almost 10 years ago from my neighbor, who told me that dogs should have a dental cleaning at least once a year, or at the very least every two years. At the time, that idea felt so unusual to me. Where I come from, dogs were simply considered pets, and dental care for them wasn’t something people really thought about.

Later, I learned the hard truth from friends who had lost their dogs due to severe dental disease—when untreated teeth became rotten, the infection spread into their bloodstream, caused complications, and their dogs passed away. Hearing those stories made me realize how important dental care really is. That’s when I decided to take my dog to Blue Cross Pet Hospital, and that’s where it all began.

Over the years, they’ve done much more than just dental cleanings. They’ve provided preventive care, regular checkups, and continuous support for my dogs’ health. Thanks to them, my oldest dog lived to be 20 years old, and even though I lost another, he lived a long life up to 16 years. Today, I have three dogs, and all of them are still under the care of Blue Cross Pet Hospital.”

“My dog has been in the care of Avenues Pet Hospital for 3 years now. It can sometimes take a while to be seen for non-urgent stuff, such as the very first new client appointment and the annual exam, but otherwise my dog gets seen quite quickly as things come up (usually within a few days, and via email or phone when I have concerns but am not sure if they are worth an appointment). They did not allow people inside for a long while due to Covid safety restrictions, but we can now go inside to wait in the waiting room, and accompany our pets during their appointment. It seems silly for other reviews to complain about this when it was for a valid reason and not an arbitrary policy. The only times I can't accompany my dog is when he comes in for his regular nail trim and gland expression as an out-patient - this is done in the back where pet owners aren't allowed. FYI I get his nails done at the vet bc he has particularly long blood vessels / quicks in his nails, so I feel safer about it being done here, even though it's a roughly-done trim and I file them smooth at home. The vets are kind and I always feel like I'm getting their honest assessment. Front desk is also always very helpful. For reviews that mention they're rude - it can depend on the person tbh, but if anything I think some can be less warm than others, and I would *not* say at all that they've ever been rude. I think they're really busy nonstop and are doing their best to get through patients in an efficient manner -- and that can sometimes be interpreted as being a little cold, when really it's just being neutral. As a society we tend to think women are "cold" when they're not overly warm and are otherwise just being normal & neutral, yet don't think that of men doing the same. So let's check our gender bias, alright? One word of advice that I learned the hard way - most medications are substantially cheaper at Chewy or Costco, so ask them to send out the prescription! The vet office has zero problem doing that and it's never awkward. It's not a perfect system since Costco doesn't have everything, and Chewy takes some days for delivery (i.e., doesn't work for meds needed the same day). I don't say this as a knock against the hospital, as I think this is common practice for vets and helps keep the lights on. I instead say this as a heads up, because I didn't know this for the longest time.”

“If you are looking for genuine compassion and care in veterinarians, there is no need for you to look anymore. Brian and his team are amazing. They are authentic animal lovers and have helped guild us through a number of difficult pet health care situations. If possible I would give them a six star rating.”

“Words cannot express how grateful I am to the medical team at SPCA for providing such world-class, empathetic, compassionate care to my previous love bug, Chestnut.

He had a critical medical episode due to an underlying condition. I called them ahead of my arriving and they were fully prepared for my arrival, remembered my cat’s name from the call hours before, and acted swiftly to stabilize him.

The veterinarian came in to deliver the news I was sadly expecting, but did it in such a way that honored the decision I knew I needed to make. They gave me all the time in the world to feed him delicious treats and a final meal, hold him, sing to him, and then hold him as he gently went “to sleep.”

While I am heartbroken, the experience was beyond all expectations and they made it possible for my beloved angel to have a dignified, honorable transition.

Thank you, SPCA, for making his end of life a truly gentle and compassionate transition. Thank you for meeting me where I was at, and for walking with me through it all and helping me into my new chapter without my best friend.

Please never stop the work you do. I cannot express how critical it is to our community.”

“When we had to rush our dog to a clinic for what appeared to be an allergic reaction, our usual vet recommended Sage Clinic. I'm glad they did. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and they saw us quickly. The vet and technicians were very knowledgeable, and the facility was clean and well maintained. Overall, it was a great experience during a stressful situation. Highly recommend.”

“This is my vet and they’ve been great for the last year!

My only complaint would be that they won’t give a vaccine without a physical, even if my cat has recently had a physical from them.”

“I went in to get a check up for my dog before an upcoming flight. We saw Dr.Amanda and she was really kind. I didn’t feel rushed and I left with all my questions answered. I would definitely request to see her again if I return for another visit.

On the other hand the front desk lady I talked to was rude. She seems like she doesn’t enjoy her job, which can be off-putting in a stressful circumstance such as the vet.

Overall one of the better vet experiences I have had.”

“Our experience at Ocean Ave Vet has been fantastic each time we've taken our 10 year old dog there. All of the staff we've interacted with have been wonderful - they are patient, provide various options for care, and even check in on our pup after his visits. For our first visit, the vet who saw him came in for his follow up visit, even though it was her day off, to check on him. Plus, their hours and availability are better than most other offices.”

“I was visiting SF from out of town when my dog had a medical emergency, and Dr. Tyrrell went above and beyond to help us navigate a really tough situation.

Since ER vets won’t give quotes over the phone and I wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with the local area, he took a moment to help point me in the right direction and checked on regional options so I could find the right 24/7 care for my budget.

Because of his guidance, I was able to find top-tier care across the bridge and save literally thousands of dollars. He didn't even know me and had zero reason to do that, but he just genuinely cared about helping my dog. Incredible guy, incredible clinic.

Also, shout out to the front desk/vet techs who helped Mocha out when she wasn’t feeling well!”

“I took my dog in for an emergency visit and I’m going to be taking her here moving forward. The staff and the Veterinarian were all very professional and understanding. My dog received the treatment she needed, and I don’t feel like they were over charging. In fact, they gave discounted visits and they made it easy to schedule multiple visits in a short amount of time after work and weekends. They were also prompt with their updates and follow up information.”
