“I’ve been taking my dog to Dr Adam for a couple of years now, he’s by far my favorite vet and I’ve tried several. I also LOVE Andrew at the front office. Their appointments are set up in 15 min increments I believe so you pay for the times used, it’s amazing (I used to pay the same amount for an average appt of 7 min w/o much info at all). I typically spend 30 min and Dr Adam is a wealth of knowledge so I love picking his brain. He shares about home cooking/bone broth, massage techniques, supplements, home teeth cleaning etc. My dog Lily loves him bc at the same time as he teaches me something new he massages her. He’s so lovely and so extremely helpful with minimal interventions. He never pushes unnecessary procedures which I love. He usually has very basic, straightforward solutions, many which haven’t costed me a dime. He’s a partner in health and one of the few good ones left. Bless his heart.”

“I love the pet clinics that are held at this location. The dogs are very well maintained and the staff is extremely helpful. They do all they can to help the animals and give out free items. I have never been inside the location building but I have attended many times outside in the parking lot area for community pet clinics.”

The staff is super accommodating and thoughtful, especially Dr Helmer, who is now taking care of my 3rd dog. Each of my dogs have had different medical issues at different stages of their lives, and Dr Helmer has walked me through it all. She is calm, honest and practical whenever there is a decision to be made. Whether it is what food to feed your dog or something much more serious. I feel like I have a partner in my dog’s health care. The office is responsive and friendly and its services continue to grow. I highly recommend Presidio Way for top notch veterinary care and for the compassion the team has for pets and their owners.”

“When we had to rush our dog to a clinic for what appeared to be an allergic reaction, our usual vet recommended Sage Clinic. I'm glad they did. The staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and they saw us quickly. The vet and technicians were very knowledgeable, and the facility was clean and well maintained. Overall, it was a great experience during a stressful situation. Highly recommend.”

“UPDATE REVIEW 09/21/26:
Alll the vets I have seen here have been amazing (Dr Press, Perman & Dr Gordon). I want to thank Dave Gordon for solving the mystery to my dogs illness. My dog was checked out and ready to go and I called for home euthansia but Dave was persistant and figure out that he has circulatory issues aside from his IBD. He has pulmonary hypertension, blot clots and leaking protiens via intestines. Dave got him on xarelto and Sildenafil and told me to give it a chance, seeing my dog suffering so much i just wanted to put him down but in the last 3 days he has done a 360 on the meds, he can walk more than 25 feet without collapsing and is showing great signs of improvoement. I can't thank Dr. Dave Gordon enough. I was so relieved once he figured it out and looked beyond the IBD. THANK YOU SO MUCH DAVE.

I have been coming here for decades. I moved out of the City ten years ago and stopped but recently came back due to our lab being very sick. I just want to say that Dr Press has been nothing but amazing and understanding in dealing with our dogs complex IBD issues. “My dog has been in the care of Avenues Pet Hospital for 3 years now. It can sometimes take a while to be seen for non-urgent stuff, such as the very first new client appointment and the annual exam, but otherwise my dog gets seen quite quickly as things come up (usually within a few days, and via email or phone when I have concerns but am not sure if they are worth an appointment). They did not allow people inside for a long while due to Covid safety restrictions, but we can now go inside to wait in the waiting room, and accompany our pets during their appointment. It seems silly for other reviews to complain about this when it was for a valid reason and not an arbitrary policy. The only times I can't accompany my dog is when he comes in for his regular nail trim and gland expression as an out-patient - this is done in the back where pet owners aren't allowed. FYI I get his nails done at the vet bc he has particularly long blood vessels / quicks in his nails, so I feel safer about it being done here, even though it's a roughly-done trim and I file them smooth at home. The vets are kind and I always feel like I'm getting their honest assessment. Front desk is also always very helpful. For reviews that mention they're rude - it can depend on the person tbh, but if anything I think some can be less warm than others, and I would *not* say at all that they've ever been rude. I think they're really busy nonstop and are doing their best to get through patients in an efficient manner -- and that can sometimes be interpreted as being a little cold, when really it's just being neutral. As a society we tend to think women are "cold" when they're not overly warm and are otherwise just being normal & neutral, yet don't think that of men doing the same. So let's check our gender bias, alright? One word of advice that I learned the hard way - most medications are substantially cheaper at Chewy or Costco, so ask them to send out the prescription! The vet office has zero problem doing that and it's never awkward. It's not a perfect system since Costco doesn't have everything, and Chewy takes some days for delivery (i.e., doesn't work for meds needed the same day). I don't say this as a knock against the hospital, as I think this is common practice for vets and helps keep the lights on. I instead say this as a heads up, because I didn't know this for the longest time.”

“Ocean Avenue has been an incredible pet hospital to work with. In the past, our only option for emergency care was traveling to Oakland, where visits often started around $1,000. Ocean Avenue is much closer, far more convenient, and significantly more affordable than other emergency pet hospitals we've used.

While we don't use them for routine veterinary care, we've relied on them for urgent care and emergencies, and they've been outstanding every time. The staff is compassionate, professional, and genuinely cares about both pets and their owners. We're very grateful to have such a reliable emergency care option nearby.”

“I went here for over a year until I moved. My dog was from Asia and had a bad surgery. They corrected the surgery and had a smooth recovery. I was really happy after I had gotten multiple consultations about that. They also don’t have “urgent care” fees like other vets in sf if you want to come same day or book next day. “SPCA offers a sliding scale for residents! Although it's been a long time since we took our hamster (they areunfortunately dead now) SFSPCA helped us when the hamster accidentally pulled in Halloween webbing , his foot got trapped, so we had to rush him to SFSPCA. the vet had to amputate his leg, he recovered fine , out lived his expiration date. They didn't charge us to much. I honestly don't remember the fee, just the feeling of relief they saved our HAMMY!”

Since ER vets won’t give quotes over the phone and I wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with the local area, he took a moment to help point me in the right direction and checked on regional options so I could find the right 24/7 care for my budget.

Because of his guidance, I was able to find top-tier care across the bridge and save literally thousands of dollars. He didn't even know me and had zero reason to do that, but he just genuinely cared about helping my dog. Incredible guy, incredible clinic.
