“Walking into Planter Sam’s shop almost took my breath away. It’s packed with plants whose healthy leaves glisten in many shades of green and yellow. Such a variety of plants and sizes. I was given lots of helpful information on sun, potting and temperature from Sam, her husband and other clerks on my two visits this month. There were lots of pot colors and sizes. I am so glad I had one of the plants repotted for me by staff. The other two smaller ones I did at home but the convenience is well worth the minimal charge. I really like the small macrame hanging I bought to fill in a bare corner. And I picked up a unique birthday card with a garden theme. I’m so glad this lovely small-business is in my San Marcos neighborhood — but it’s easy to get to from anywhere in north county. Value - selection - customer service - easy parking — ALL 5-star.”
“Employees are all very helpful. When they weren’t able to help me they found someone else who could. Store manager Tom was great and explained everything to me to best of his abilities. Thank you”
“Best place to get soil, DG, pumice, perlite, and some small lava rock. They allow customers to shovel buckets of material so if you don't have an open truck for loading, you can still benefit from the low prices vs bagged material. This is the only place in San Diego that I have found that lets you do this. I've been going 3-4 times a year for about 5 years and have always gotten exceptional service. I've also had 2 deliveries of 15 cubic yards each time with succulent container soil. Just love it.”
“My husband and I just picked up top soil / compost blend for our raised bed & planters. The owners are really helpful, explained our options, and the prices are great. Soil is about 250% cheaper than big stores and better quality as well. I really appreciate the friendliness of the owners, and am proud to support a locally owned family operated business. We’ll be back.”
“I am so happy that I found Joe and Discovery Island Palms! Joe went out of his way to help me find the perfect size and shape of trees to fit my space. I ended up buying 3 palms and then went back to get more! Great trees grown with care. I love supporting local businesses.”
“I purchased 8 trees from Marty out at Twin oaks Nursery and couldn't be happier! Nice, healthy trees at a great price!
Yes, Marty is a bit quirky and there is no signage indicating where the business is (look for the black mailbox marked 2727) but he is very knowledgeable and has a large variety of plants and trees.
I was looking for Podocarpus trees which Marty had posted on Craigslist. I didn't realize his business was by appointment only, but he graciously helped me anyway. Since Marty is a grower, he picked out 8 beautiful and well-matched trees from his stock and helped me load them. If you can't find what you are looking for, give Marty a call.”
“Beatrice is excellent to work with in the showroom and Francisco is our outside rep. AHS has people that know what they are doing and they are kind and hard working. Thank you AHS!”
“I normally don't review hardware stores and I normally do not shop at this location, but I had a real great customer service experience. As soon as I walked in the door, someone greeted me and asked if I need help. I normally don't ask for help but I said I needed some assistance with specific light switches and fan controller. The gentleman who covers that area just happened to be standing next to the greeter. He looked at the switches I brought with me and was able to quickly get me what I needed that they had in stock. He identified that the other switch is not something they carry so he identified the model number and I ordered it from Amazon. He was very helpful and friendly. I ended up buying a few other items and was able to check out with minimal wait. Overall, it was a much better and quicker experience than I expected.”
“I love this place! It isn’t just a plant shopping destination, it’s a relaxing and informative break in your day. All they need now is a cafe or barista station to complete this reprieve from the rat race. There’s a wide range of seeds, as well as indoor and outdoor plants, fertilizers and ornamental pots, plus all kinds of products other garden centers don’t carry, such as pond accessories, bags of bat guano or containers of helpful lady bugs or earthworms. You can even have them identify what’s bothering your plant at home. Remember to pick up your Edible San Diego magazine on your way out. ?”
