“I like Trader Joe's for some basics, including frozen penne arrabbiata, hash browns, and maple flavored poffertjes. I also like the fresh micro greens. Easy breakfast, lunch and dinners at a reasonable price.”

“This place is awesome! So many things that you can’t find at most grocery stores, and the fresh food is great. I really liked the loco moco with mochiko chicken - the chicken was flavorful and the serving size was big. The poke was also solid, and the mac salad is a crowd favorite. Very kind service too, and there’s outdoor seating if you can’t wait to go home to eat your haul.”

“Fabulous produce. Much better than what you can get at the farmers market at CSM. They have the midnight watermelons right now...OMG SOOOOOOO GOOD! They are incredibly sweet and juicy, and it's difficult to get a bad one. I'm not sure I ever have before. My folks live them, too. I've seen them at other produce stores and they have been more expensive. I usually buy 2 at a time because I'm afraid they're going to sell out for the season. I also buy yellow nectarine when they are in season. The ones I bought a couple days ago were so favorable and juicy, I almost couldn't handle it. I mean, just feel rich flavor, juicy, not pithy at all. Just superior quality. I don't mind spending more $ for good fruit because a lot of times what you get at the supermarket is crap. They've been picked too early and shipped in trucks that are too cold, and what you end up with is tasteless, poor textured fruit that refuse to fully ripen before it expires. I find that's even the case at the farmers market. Not here though. And even though I don't mind spending more $ for higher quality fruit, here, I don't really have to. The owner is also fun to chat with and is incredibly generous with sample requests. I've never heard him refuse a sample to a customer before. And I take advantage of it because it's reassuring to know what you're getting before you might get all the way home and are disappointed. That kind of customer service is severely lacking at grocery store produce departments.
One last thing... if you are lucky enough to find yourself here during Muskat Grape season...holy sh*t balls...BUY THEM. At least get a sample. They will change your life. Not too many places have them - Piazza's does, but not too many other places - but they are simply incredible. I'm really not a grape person. I never buy any of the regular types, but these are on a while different level than those. They are seriously addictive. I would probably allow myself to get sick eating too many at a time, so I strictly manage the amount I let myself consume in a sitting. Oh they're so good. It's not their season right now but I'm just imagining them and I can almost taste them. Soooo Good!”
“The picked foods in the jars and the produce is fantastic and reasonably priced. The dried fruits and nuts section is fantastic and very competitively priced. Pretty much everything else is overpriced in my opinion. If you go in and shop smart, this place is fantastic.”

“I much rather support a local business rather than a corporate chain. So I have started coming regularly making my purchases of vegetables. The prices are on par to the Safeway on El Camino and they are never busy when I drop by. I've bought my cheeses, 2 types, and beef liver and also chorizo from the meat section and was very pleased with the quality.The taqueria has pleased me three times now. The quesabirrias were very AFFORDABLE and the cook was very generous with both the amount of cheese and meat served; the quesadilla was extremely cheesy; the pupusas queso con frijol were extremely yummy with the sauce and pickled cabbage.”

“I would like the manager of the San Mateo store to know of the gem he/she has working them! Khalida in the produce department is to be commended for her hard work and kindness! She makes sure her department is clean and well-stocked with "fresh" produce! She never hesitates to go that extra mile to assist the customer and is always cheerlful and friendly. Her smile can brighten anyone's day!”

“Clean, employees are reasonably polite and helpful but not necessarily friendly. Relatively small store physically but they seem to have everything a larger store would usually have. I didn't see alcohol but I wasn't looking for it.”

“Looks nice! The owner offered help when I need, but there was a lot of food I'd never seen, so I thought I need to more learn those for my next visit.Some reviewers here said that they didn't show a food price, but I can now find the cost with food.”
“We each got a taco platter, so two tacos each--2 chicken, 1 lengua, and 1 al pastor... Tacos were more than decent--they exceeded my expectations. You see, I was led to believe we walked in to El Palenque, so I was excited until I discovered that we were actually somewhere that had only TWO stars, so I was a little nervous... Turns out the lengua was tender and flavorful, and the al pastor was very tasty! Fresh tomatillo salsa was VERY fresh, and the chips were also fresh and very tasty...rice was fluffy, and the beans were rich and well-seasoned...was a relief to see that it was actually pretty good!”

“When there's no nighttime public restrooms available in a five mile radius thanks to the destructive nature related to the homeless crisis, Safeway fights back and keeps the restrooms open and clean. “One of my favorite grocery stores. However, I’m increasingly noticing some people bringing in the dogs inside the store, which really don’t appear to be “service dogs”. I think checking for whether a dog is service dog needs to be strictly enforced. I remember seeing one of my neighbours in the grocery store with their dog and I’m quite certain that it is not a service dog. Bottom Line: Management needs to strictly enforce “service dogs only” rule. If they don’t, it’s just a matter of time that it could become a health hazard for shoppers.”

“This place is a nice little shop on the street corner and it has a lot of nice imports from Hispanic countries. It's right next to San Mateo High School so it's good as an after school spot to pick up a snack or a place to get an energy drink or snack before school.”
“This is my go-to market! It’s a Latin gem with a variety of Central and South American goodies. The butcher shop offers poultry, beef, pork, and pre-seasoned meats ready to cook. They also have a deli counter stocked with fresh guacamole, queso fresco, jamón, ceviche, and crema. To top it off, there’s a hot food bar where you can order tacos, burritos, and more.”
“Got a chance to checkout the sandwich shop while I was in the area. It is a delightful sandwich stop conveniently located within the grocery store. If you are in a rush this shop has a wide range of options, and it's a go-to for a quick and tasty sandwich. Fresh ingredients and flavorful combinations make their sandwiches a solid choice. The service is quick and the people there are extremely nice. If sandwiches don't appeal to you they have plenty of other options that look delicious. The sandwich itself isn't out of this world but gets the job done. It is extremely filling and quite nice. They also toast the sandwich if you would like. Overall I would recommend this place if you are in the area.”
