“John is a snowboard boot miracle worker. For over 10 years I dealt with foot pain while snowboarding. Often bad enough I could not complete a run without stopping midway. Over the years I went to multiple boot fitters in the Bay Area, offering to pay whatever was necessary, and no one was able to solve my issues. I found John through a discussion on Reddit and made an appointment last Fall. He took his time to understand my issues and set me up with new boots and their new custom snowboard foot beds. So far I have rode 13 days this season completely pain free. It has been amazing after those years of foot pain getting in the way. I have noticed my riding has even improved because the boots fit so well.”

“I have have been very impressed with Gunnar. He is very service oriented, calm, and an excellent ski and boot technician. Since my right foot is slightly smaller than my left, I have struggled with skiing due to the slop in my right boot. He took this up as a challenge, and spent 1/2 hour readjusting the rubber boot insert, and adding cushioning beneath it. Finally I can ski with both boots being tight. “My kid's skis went missing, and we went into True North at 9am on Sunday of a holiday weekend to beg them for new skis. Even though they were slammed, they hooked us up, got bindings mounted and everything. The skis were actually very difficult to mount (skis fault not staff), and one binding slipped during the process by half a centimeter. They told us about the issue even though they didn't need to and offered to fix them if my daughter could tell the difference. We took the skis out, and my daughter could in fact feel the difference so we brought them back. They gave us an entirely new set of skis for no additional charge.”

Everything they do says “we do things the right way, every time.” They took all the time I needed to make my new boots perfect, and I’ve even had another ski shop say “whoever was the last person to work on these skis did an amazing job.” I told them it was Start Haus in Truckee and they said “yeah that makes sense.” This was in Colorado. Reputation for doing everything the right, almost old-school way. No machine waxes here.”
