“One of the most veteran and special literary organizations, venues, and bookstores around. The staff and board are constantly growing and expanding what they include and bring in for their programming. Their small bookstore is humble, but carries titles that are often out of print and supportive of our great local talent!”
“I’ve attended a few read the rooms and it’s the perfect way to end a week. Just a few hours tucked away from the bustle of the world where there is low lights and ambient music. Amazing time.”

“I love this place. It’s not just a retail store, it’s a sacred space and a work of art, clearly born of love.
The owner Russell is super engaging and knowledgeable, and he’s enthusiastic about helping customers/seekers/explorers find whatever is most ideal for them, whether a book, a tarot deck, a crystal, a meditation cushion or whatever..
The used book section outside offers top level books and all kinds of interesting gems for $5.
I’m so glad Santa Monica has a cool spot like this..”
“Huge amount of photo books, genuinely one of the best bookstores I’ve ever come across.
Was looking for a specific book that I couldn’t find and they kindly offered to order it for me (unfortunately, wasn’t sure I could come again so I refused) but overall, great staff + great book collection.”
“As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series and SERA Archives Thriller Series, I always enjoy visiting standout bookstores while traveling, and Barnes & Noble in Manhattan Beach is a super nice location.
The store has a broad, open layout with lower shelving that lets you see across the space, giving it a welcoming and easy-to-navigate feel.
There’s a huge children’s area along with a very nice café space. One detail that stands out is the wraparound mural featuring well-known authors, which adds character and makes the interior feel more engaging.
The overall setup is clean and thoughtfully designed, making it a comfortable place to browse and spend time.
I also spent a few minutes in the romance section while writing The Maui Desire Romance Series, and it’s a well-organized area that fits nicely alongside the thriller shelves.
The staff has been friendly and helpful, and the surrounding shopping center is very well kept with plenty of parking, which makes visiting easy.
Overall, it’s a strong Barnes & Noble in Manhattan Beach with a great layout, inviting atmosphere, and a solid selection.”
“The Book Jewel is a special place, centered on community. I googled local bookstores and came across this gem, pun intended. I walked in and immediately felt welcomed. They have a wonderful selection and events. Would give more stars if I could.”
“Pages is an EXCEPTIONAL bookstore. The selection is nice and the store is well organized, but the people are truly the best part.
Octavia helped our kid find exactly what he was looking for - plus some things he didn't even know existed - and he left the store overjoyed! He felt so seen and understood and delighted. Meeting Octavia truly made our day.
You must stop by if you're nearby...and if you're not, it's worth the trip!”
“I love The Ripped Bodice! My daughter and I have made it our girls date destination! My only comment is some of the books don't have the prices on thier barcodes, so it can be a little hard to estimate the price. Tho I may have over looked a sign saying a price... if so my bad 🤭”
“Great selection of books, gift items, and especially greeting cards. My 86 yo auntie was very happy about the boxed greeting cards. She loves to remember her church folk on their birthdays. 🥰
Be sure to pick up a few caramels. They're so yummy!”
“I love to read, but more often than not do it on my Kobo or Kindle. Remembering how much I used to enjoy finding treasures in used bookstores years ago, I headed to Sideshow. I could have bought the two art books I came away with for a bit less online, but I would have missed a great experience (and cup of espresso!).”

“We love this Barnes and Noble as it is 3 levels and has a Starbucks too! It is one of the older style stores as it has been at the Grove for a long time but it’s one of the best!”
“Small hole in the wall with mighty superpowers to meet your bike repair needs. Have been getting my bikes serviced here for the last few years and am always awed by their incredible work and low prices to boot”

“Hare Krishna! Radhe Radhe!
Every time I go there someone is singing bhajans or discussing Bhagvata Geeta. The bhajans are melodious and full of devotion. Sitting there from 15 minutes will re-energize you. I’m truly blessed to have discovered this place recently. See the attached POV video of entering the temple.”

“You can sit and drink tea they are organized and there is a beautiful chapel statues abit pricey bit books are reasonable price and easy to find I recommend cotters book store for more variety of religious materials”
“It was a great blessing from the ETERNAL, I received what I did not expect and just as I received I was also able to receive the help of the King of the Universe.”
“Probably the best art book store in the city. They regularly have rare out of print books you cant find anywhere else, and their prices are very reasonable. I am always tempted to buy a few things every time i go.”
“We had a great experience working with the Gifted team. They bought our Green Grass Bunny Decorations, Recycled Paper Bunny Shaped Baskets, and Red & White Check Napkins from us. Be sure to stop in!”
“Love this bookstore! Great selection and the employees here are definitely readers. It’s a wonderful place to spend time relaxing and exploring what’s out in different genres. If you’re going to buy books, and you want bookstores to exist, DON’T buy them on Amazon.”
“Super nice staff. Great selection, grabbed the Fleabag pilot and Jaws screenplays. I came to Larry Edmunds 10 years ago and have been waiting to come back! Charming and messy.”
“I’m a big fan of Taschen and so happy to see this store here! Even though it’s small, you’ll find lots of amazing publications. I’d love to buy them all, especially the architecture and design are fantastic, but the erotica section has a certain charm too. The staff is super friendly. The store has its own entrance, so you can find it easily.”

“I love this store, located inside the Mitsuwa market. It offers a great selection of books, pens, stickers, traveler’s Notebooks, and many gift items. You can also find Japanese manga and other unique Japanese goods. Their always excellent selection includes blank books, journals, plushies, and cute tote bags. Also, some T-shirts, mugs, mood rings, and coffee mugs. Immediately next door, you'll find a market specializing in all Japanese foods and sundry items. This includes fresh sushi to go and shops featuring all kinds of Japanese fast food. After shopping, you can enjoy a meal there—shop, then eat: it's a great plan. Friendly service. Easy to park!”
“very cool little record + bookstore. Ended up finding a cool limited run pressing of the White Stripes “White Blood Cells” album and a book of poems by Emily Dickinson. Highly recommend!”
“Great selection of artsy books. Very friendly staff more higher end than I'm used to but bought a great book about Marvel Comics history. Great staff very friendly. Priced just right.”
“This place is a hidden gem, it offers all the first editions. We were greeted by someone who was very friendly and took the initiative to explain about the store to us. Didn’t buy anything except for their tote bag”

“OK is truly a gem and quite literally my favorite store in all of Los Angeles -- actually, in all of the world. Everyone at the shop is super kind, knowledgable, and patient, and the selection of items is so thoughtfully and wisely curated by the intrepid Larry and team!!! I love this store so much -- the atmosphere is so chic and cool, and the best part is that every time I come by I feel like I am visiting family. This beautiful store is a genuine godsend!”

“I was visiting LA back in March and I went into this bookstore—it was awesome. But I was just rewatching Gilmore Girls and realized this is the same bookstore from S3E21! I recognized it immediately. So cool.”
