Even though I wasn't able to pay the entire bill at once, Dr. Thompson allowed me to pay what I could and finish up with a monthly payment plan. Those of you with critters that you call your children will understand the importance of this!When the pandemic began, other vets would act weird about people being with their dogs in the exam room. Dr. Thompson always maintained his professional demeanor and allowed people inside. This was very important to me because my dogs need me to be with them during their appointments.I have been living back in Durango now for years and would not take my pup to any other vet in the area. This is because Dr. Thompson not only specializes in conventional medicine, he also specializes in alternative and natural herbal remedies. When one of my German Shepard pups was diagnosed with Pannus and steroid drops caused side effects, an herbal remedy was very effective at preventing more eye scarring.Dr. Thompson was there on another weekend emergency visit where he was clearly exhausted. He showed up with a smile, and stitched up my pups that had severe lacerations on their legs. I could tell the ease of this high stress situation for this man when I saw him stitching in action. The skin folds and stiches were closed so fast that I could tell this guy might be the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) veterinarians.When I first saw Dr. Thompson shed a tear for one of my dogs that passed, I realized he was more than a veterinarian, he was a person who really cared. If you have a pet or working animal in the four corner's area, the one place for all your needs is Elk Park Animal Hospital!

Am super glad we did.I ordered the "O.G." chicken sandwich, which was a large, hand-breaded chicken fillet that was perfectly fried.Spouse ordered the green chili fries with bacon... Crispy basic cheese fries, elevated by a smothering layer of delicious (even if mild) green chili, and sprinkled with a generous amount of homemade thick, chunky bacon.The place itself is a little bit echo-y and loud, but not too bad. In warmer weather, I'd bet the outside seating is great.Yet another one of Colorado's amazing little mountain-town surprises.

The people who work there are nice and they care about the animals they take in. They even help out with Vet visits by helping pay a portion of the visit if you can't afford to take your pet to the Vet for whatever reason. Though you may have to prove income and residency. Also If you can please donate any amount helpa. So they can continue to help the animals they look after and continue to provide services like pet food and Vet visits.
