For a good reason this place gets quite packed, the line doesn’t take too long though, pick-up right next to the order station.
Friendly staff and a great selection of drinks with classics like cheerwine and a variety of delicious iced teas.
Definitely try the classic lobster roll (hot), the chowders and the fried clams!

Very interesting menu to start, putting together the options in my head was just crazy, idk how they came up w this one of a kind menu not just the food but the beverages non alcoholic and barista style coffee’s. There were 8 of us, we went for a Birthday Brunch, not one of us ordered the same thing I mean from drinks, apps and food some ordered 2 meals cause we wanted the sweet and the savory boy did we leave 110% satisfied!! Our waiter, he was on top of his game and he happily hustled for us upon other guests, what a Guy he deserves a raise or he should be teaching people how to work, the way he worked that room and the bar at the same time unbelievable!! Started w the fried green tomatoes, best I’ve ever had and I do love a good fried green tomato, ashamed to say “better than my homemade ones” crisp, tangy and fresh, so not forget to try their pepper jelly that comes w it just the right amount of sweet and hot. Waffles never had a waffle like this, they are different the natural sweetness idk great recipe, eggs cooked to perfection, home fries baked and seasoned perfectly and never had better tater tots, ever also seasoned perfectly. Gotta try the Tony Montana, and when I ordered I order like Scarface said his name the waiter he interacted with me and enjoyed the enthusiasm and interacted instead of moving on, loved it oh and the dish toO, was friggen awesome. I could keep writting but I’m gonna move on and post pictures after I tell you to take a minute stop and enjoy the pictures from our past, the artists that brought us music, music that you felt it in your bones, if you know you know…. from the ceiling to eye level check all the walls take that minute!! Not done, even the bathrooms were clean and decorated over the top never thought I’d love a public restroom so much, I also happened to walk past the kitchen whose door was open to see, it looked immaculately clean, organized and like a great environment to be working in. This place was really a fantastic experience, I am so happy we went. Oh we did not ask for a birthday treat for our girl however, a special waffle was brought out just for her candle and all, how nice is that, thoughtful reallly made her day !! I want to post pictures but it’s not letting me…. I noticed the other reviews saying food didn’t come out together hadda wait ECT, however the food mostly came out together but super fresh so we didn’t mind waiting a few extra minutes for everything to be in the table, their was so much food, beautiful looking food to share and taste while waiting and the positive attitude our Guy had while waiting on us said everything so we knew, they got this. FRESH FOOD isn’t as easy to prepare as the processed premade foods like every other menu in the world, one person maintaining everything in the restaurant and keeping positive vibe the entire 2 hrs we were there said everything. I’d go again, I’d wait the extra minutes and not bat an eye..

Fred's Shanty Restaurant
272 Pequot Ave, New LondonFred's Shanty was an unexpected treasure. I stopped to get some takeout and decided to stay and eat there because the food was so good, and the ambiance was so pleasant that I did not want to go anywhere else. The fried whole belly clams were crispy and the accompanying salad I ordered was so big, I had to eat it in two sittings. Fred's warm welcome at the counter and quick service is a guaranteed recipe for getting lots of return business. Highly recommended!
