I've been an REI member since 1994. The Winter Park location is a great example of an REI outlet. Winter Park associates are well trained , knowledgeable, give fantastic customer service, they're friendly and have hands-on knowledge about products from a long list of vendors sold in house (think Patagonia, Thule, Garmin, Birkenstock, Marmot, The North Face, Yakima, Petzl, etc.) on top of the REI branded quality line.
REI lifetime membership in the co-op has fantastic perks and it's a huge bonus for the Orlando area to have a physical REI store to put your hands on actual gear to see how you interact with it before you're in the backwoods. There are knowledge and training classes taught at this REI covering a variety of subjects - hey! a little knowledge can go a long way.
I've had a couple of hands-on positive experiences doing returns/exchanges to the store from equipment that I purchased online. It's always been a hassle-free experience with a helpful friendly attitude from the staff member.
My only gripe is that they only carry Olukai sandals and no shoes. As Olukai is notoriously difficult to fit - having a brick and mortar vendor to actually get your size correct would be great!”

“This is the best place in central Florida. Both Mike and Carlos are very knowledgeable and have years of experience. They can get you fitted as a beginner to the sport or help you before a tournament. You get great recommendations and they even offer lessons if wanted. Just let them know what you want to accomplish. I go out of my way to use them and recommend you give them a try.”
