“We enjoyed our stay right on the beach! We loved that it is pet friendly. Our dog got to experience the beach for the first time and she loved it! The walk way that runs along the beach and Firepits are a nice touch!”

“I haven't stayed yet but after reading all the reviews and the way you handled them is very encouraging to us. We understand some folks have stronger skin than others but your positive way in handling them encourages us to stay. Thank you for keeping the nostalgic motels alive.”

“Boutique lodging with a great location across from the Lighthouse and walking distance to restaurants, the beach and shopping. Breakfast is a continental style offering but the space can be crowded.”

“Stayed here for the weekend of the GA/FL game. The staff here is absolutely lovely- the lady behind the front desk even remembered when we mentioned in passing we’d be going for a birthday dinner and when we went to the lobby that night offered to get a picture of the whole group, as well as gave us directions. Location is great too. The walls are kinda thin, so on a busy weekend it was loud on the second bed/sofa bed but the main room was a bit quieter. But totally worth it for the price and the rooms were nice too! I’d come back”

“We were highly looking forward to our Residence Inn stay at Jekyll Island. The grounds outside the hotel were beautiful, the entrance and check in went smoothly. After gaining access to our room we noticed several issues we thought need more attention to detail- first off the amount of hair still hanging on the walls in the shower gave us a ick feeling of inadequate cleaning. The sills surrounding the showers had a large amount of visible black mold. Several drawers in the room were broken, with the handles falling off, and consistently sliding out, leading us to run into them in the dark- causing bruises and cuts especially dangerous with young children staying in the room. Small beetles/ baby roaches were found in our bags, and climbing on the walls in the corner next to windows.

By the 3rd day the pool was not clean- hair, beetles, and palm tree debris was floating in the pool- as the groundskeepers were trimming the trees.

As for breakfast- if you are gluten or dairy intolerant bring your own breakfast. There are not any alternatives. Despite having a “Starbucks sold here” cafe the coffee was TERRIBLE! If you find you like actual espresso and drinkable coffee- it’s well worth your trip to take a bike to Wake Up Coffee across from the Mosaic Museum.

Aside from these imperfections- we did appreciate the free sand toys and pool floats that guests could utilize. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.”

“To be clear, my experience is with the roof top restaurant and the service I received on my last two visits.

Outstanding. The team is new (believed to be under new ownership or management) --- but my experience on both visits were great. The views are about the best for St Simons Island ... and the happy hour prices cannot be beat.

Regardless of any past experiences, lighten up --- and give them another try. Bartender is very willing to accommodate anything he has access to for making you the perfect cocktail. The appetizers are perfect and the burger is great. YOU cannot beat the prices, the view, and the service. What more can you expect. The world needs to just relax and stop being so critical and mean. Enjoy it, be glad you're on the island .... good grief enjoy it.

I will be back ... THANK YOU Ocean Lodge Restaurant staff!”

“There’s a lot of chatter about this hotel, and after staying there for a couple of nights I can understand the mixed reviews. I don’t think any of these reviews are “wrong” in their assessments, but it all comes down to what you value, how you set your expectations, and maybe a little bit of luck.Heres what I loved about the Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island - because of the way the hotel was built motel style parallel to the ocean, all of the rooms (save those behind the new restaurant being built) have an amazing ocean view. You can watch the sunrise over the ocean from most room windows, the attached patio or balcony, or take a short stroll to the beach. The lobby and common area are nicely appointed and there’s the most adorable and lovely lady (Linda) who serves coffee to guests on the third floor in the mornings (with pastry like items for purchase). The restaurant next door serves a buffet breakfast and while the service is slow the food is decent and the screened in porch is divine in the morning sun. They lit the fire in the fire pit each night (doesn’t warm you but looks pretty and is a nice place to socialize with other guests) and the pool was warm. They also played an outdoor movie on Friday night that would have been very fun had it been warmer while we were there. My daughter had fun playing on the little playground by the pool. I found the front desk staff to be courteous and always available to help. I am pregnant and thought the beds were very comfortable and medium soft. The sheets and pillows were in good shape and clean too. The rooms are pretty large and have a small kitchenette area with a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. All of the guests we met were nice people and seemed to be having a good time. This is a great hotel for families. All that said, yes the rooms are worn down and they could have been cleaner. They need plumbing work and ultimately the rooms (and bathrooms in particular) need a renovation.* Part of the problem is that the foot wash from the beach is rusted out completely so sand gets tracked into tubs and the pool. While the pool water seemed well treated (i think it’s a salt water pool) it desperately needed to be vacuumed. Some of the pool cushions and seating were tattered or frayed, which is a little thing with a big impact on the overall appearance of the place. There was a cigar butt on the window sill of our room when we arrived and one of the towels had tooth paste on it. Kinda gross but not a vacation ruining experience unless you let it be.In summary, this hotel is really a fantastic value for a beach front room on a gorgeous island. If you are a looking for a high end, spa-like resort, then you should stay at the club resort on the western side of the island. If you are looking for an unfussy, laid back vibe and can overlook a few things, you’re going to love it here, just as we did!*The consideration in renovating these rooms is that it will surely make this hotel more expensive. One can’t have it all!Suggestions for management - fix the foot wash by the beach, invest in plumbing maintenance, get the pool area spruced up, consider having housekeeping clean rooms every other day so they have more time to ensure rooms are very clean between guests (especially with more attention paid to bathrooms).”
