“It’s a wonderful exhibition space. The administrators there have done an amazing job in the few years since they first opened, and it has a very promising future ahead. The outside curators who they have invited to jury exhibitions such as “Artists of Hawaii” and “Hawaii Craftsmen” are the best in their field. Some recommendations: more signage is necessary for first-time visitors to find the second floor gallery, which is really the jewel of the organization, and although showing a lot of works is important, breaking a show up into rotations and showing fewer works at any given time would result in a much more visually powerful exhibition.”

“Such incredible work and what a great eye. I am so happy with the craftsmanship and quality of the materials used for my pieces --it is the only place to go for those special items you can only entrust to experienced professionals.”

“Shopping in Chinatown, Honolulu, Hawaii...I was on my way to Sun Chong Grocery on Hotel Street, when I noticed the merchandise on shelves on the sidewalk. I had just parked my car on Maunakea Street when I decided to take a quick look at Hawaiian Asian Art Auction...The lucky red envelopes caught my eye... Especially the cute Year of the Rabbit envelopes! I asked, "How much?" in English as I handed three packs of envelopes to the friendly lady at the door. She said, "For you - Five Dollars." I thought: Wow! Such a good deal! I had paid more at the store down the street. I hid my happiness (I was bursting) as I handed over some cash. While she was getting change for me, I saw some lucky zodiac Animal key chains that would be great as gifts. She was offering them to me at a dollar off! Whoa! I got two! Haha!I browsed the bracelets and jade charms. Gosh - I should return with a list. These would make super good birthday presents!Who doesn't need more good luck, right???”

“The perfect date-night experience. If you are hitting the nicer restaurants in the area, give an hour stop-in to Park West. It's a beautiful collection of Historical and Contemporary Artists from Rembrandt to Marcus Glenn. They also feature monthly artists with meet and greet sessions which often come with the chance to buy their unique pieces.”

“Mike the owner was very gracious and informative about his gallery and the works he is selling. We saw contemporary works as well as those done by older artists, along with some beautiful feather pieces, ceramics and glass. There is an upstairs gallery where the shows are held several times a year. For bonus points there is La Gelateria next door that gets great reviews if you need some gelato.”

“Let me say this. As a native Hawaiian supporting local artists we sometimes do not receive the warmest welcome when entering an establishment. Magnolia is the total opposite of that. From the moment my daughter and I stepped in we felt completely welcomed and at home. The owner, Maggie is an absolute gem. We purchased a tahitian pearl bracelet by a local artist for my sister's birthday and she absolutely LOVED it! My daughter purchased a necklace for herself as well. The experience was so memorable that we returned a week later. I purchased my 2nd diffuser (OMG the aroma is to die for) and some prints from a local artist that will look fabulous in my living room. We will continue to return to support our local artist community and for the sheer joy it brings us to visit. TRUST me, before you visit the "other" similar popular stores. Magnolia should be your first stop. You will thank me for it!”

“We like to get Jeff Chang dishes and things as housewarming gifts. I think Nohea is the only place that carries his work now that his store at Windward Mall closed. There are different pieces at different price points to choose from. I'm not familiar with Kapolei. The friendly staff gave me good directions and was very helpful. I found a good-sized piece that I thought was reasonable at $60.”

“Had a good time here, got to see a lot of local art and leave with a few pieces myself. A great spot for souvenirs or just large buys in general. There are some really great works on display.”

“Located in the lobby of the Beachcomber hotel in Waikiki, the Hawaiian Aroma Caffe is a solid breakfast option that opens early and has plenty of variety on the menu. The acai waffle with mixed berries was delicious, as was the sunny side waffle, although there are a ton of other waffle flavors we didn’t have time (or room) to try. The best part about this place is the coffee, especially the caramel macchiato.Try and get here early as it does get fairly crowded and seating space is limited; or just grab a coffee and waffle to go and enjoy it right on the beach, which is just a short walk away. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Aroma Cafe if you’re looking for a breakfast place that opens early and has great coffee and tasty waffle options.”

“My recent 2023 visit to Honolulu allowed me to visit Tabora Gallery Waikiki for my first time. Seascape artist Roy Tabora is the world's best seascape artist, in my humble opinion. I was pleased to read Tabora had a gallery in Waikiki Beach & so I looked forward to seeing it on this visit. At Tabora Gallery, I enjoyed meeting Brandy, Gallery Art Consultant, & getting updated/more educated about Roy's work. I was pleased to see Tabora's artwork in this gallery. His work remains stunningly beautiful. If you enjoy seascape art, I strongly recommend visiting any Tabora Gallery near you, particularly at the Tabora Gallery Waikiki. ?”

“Fishcake is a delightful hidden gem in the back of the Ward area, a charming enclave offering a unique mix of food vendors, a furniture store, pottery, a salon, and more. It's a place that came highly recommended, and I was specifically urged to try the hand-pulled noodles available on Saturdays, a popular item known to sell out well before 1pm. Taking this advice, I had the pleasure of sampling the Hand Pulled Biang Biang Noodles from @shimas_oodles.of.noodles, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. The noodles themselves were a testament to the art of hand-pulling, possessing the perfect texture that only skilled hands can achieve. The spicy sauce, when combined with the extra homemade chili oil I requested, resulted in a dish that was nothing short of culinary perfection. Having tried hand-pulled noodles in various places from Honolulu to NYC, I can confidently say that these noodles are a standout. They balance heat and flavor impeccably, making every bite a delightful exploration of taste. And at a price point of $13, it's an unbeatable value for the quality you receive. The only caveat is the limited availability - not only do these noodles sell out quickly, often before 1pm, but they are also only offered once every other week. This exclusivity means you need to plan your visit early to ensure you get your fill. Despite this, the wait and effort are absolutely worth it for a chance to indulge in some of the best hand-pulled noodles around.”

“Excellent photographer with a beautiful display set up for all to see. Alan was very kind and informative when I stopped at his booth to view his pieces. I absolutely fell in love with one of his large landscape pieces and knew I needed it in my living at home. I purchased it and the order was shipped directly to my house in a very timely manner and it was perfect for the space I had in mind. All my guests always comment on how beautiful it is and I can’t wait to purchase more of his stunning artwork. Thank you Alan for sharing your artistic talents with the world.”

“I headed to the store while taking a morning walk from my hotel in Waikiki. The Super Green Ball I was looking for was a spinach-based smoothie, but it wasn't grassy at all and went perfectly with the banana and strawberry toppings, and the refreshing sweetness was addictive! I finished it in no time, enjoying the texture of the nuts and cereal. There are only 4 seats outside, and you can see Diamond Head from the window seats inside. At around 9am on December 27, 2023, we were the only Japanese people there. Although it was delicious, I also liked that it wasn't crowded like the restaurants in Waikiki.”

“To be clear, this isn't quite a spot anyone can just pop into and look around, though there are public events from time to time. The EWC is a research organization that strives to improve policy and relations between the US and the basically everywhere else I think, but with a focus on Asia and the Pacific. The Honolulu campus is comprised of an administrative building, two graduate dorms, and a conference hall. Events such as the annual East West Fest are open to the public, and a nice showcase of the cultures and arts of affiliated grad students. Last year had a number of musical performances and a fantastic hula performance. John A. Burns Hall has a small art gallery that is open to the public and definitely worth a visit if you're nearby.”

“I went in to browse the art at the well known Wyland Gallery in Waikiki and met the Gallery Director Jean. What a treat to meet such a professional lady. I never left a review before but she was so friendly and very easy going and personable that when I finish building my home I am defiantly going back to see her.”
